Building a Better Opera: the composer
http://betteropera.blogspot.com/p/composer.html
Building a Better Opera. I'm Jennifer Jolley, and I'm attempting to write an opera. I made one other attempt at this when I was an undergraduate at USC. Studying with Stephen Hartke. I'm crazy enough to attempt this again. If you would like to hear samples of my work, you can visit my website. Also, if you would like to hear my thoughts about writing music, you can visit my other blog. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). About building a better opera. Follow us on twitter. Building a Better Opera: August 2010
http://betteropera.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Building a Better Opera. Thursday, August 26, 2010. As I'm waiting for Kendall to finish a working draft of the opera, I thought I should do some research and brush up on my English text setting. This may seem easy, but it isn't for me; I know I have had some problems with scansion in the past. My solution for this is to study Henry Purcell's vocal works, which, according to my former professor,. Is best the way to learn how to set English. Ask Andrew Norman,. Links to this post. the domestic cantata: On pause
http://mariagrenfell.blogspot.com/2009/07/on-pause.html
Thoughts and ramblings on music, parenting, life. Saturday, July 4, 2009. The kids are growing and changing so much. It's going to be lovely to have some warmth and sunshine and just enjoy some time together without running from one thing to the next. Alexander is going from strength to strength, his teacher is very happy with him, particularly his reading, and he seems to have settled in well at school after a few months of testing the boundaries. See you when we get back! Have a wonderful break Maria!

the domestic cantata: Desperately Seeking Sleep
http://mariagrenfell.blogspot.com/2009/03/desperately-seeking-sleep.html
Thoughts and ramblings on music, parenting, life. Saturday, March 28, 2009. We have come to the conclusion she's doing this because she is constantly whinging to be picked up during the day, so spends most of the time being carried around, on account of the fact she's not walking yet, at almost 18 months - I am not worried, just exhausted and frustrated. I'm so tired I can't think straight half the time. Apologies to those of you who have noticed, LOL! Also the temp has just dropped.is Lillian cold?

the domestic cantata: July 2008
http://mariagrenfell.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Thoughts and ramblings on music, parenting, life. Tuesday, July 29, 2008. I am sitting at my desk on another very cold night listening to the friendly geriatric whirr of my faithful printer. It's printing out the 64 page draft of my piece. Now, before anyone gets too excited (least of all, me), there are still a few gaps that need filling. The piano reduction is half-done, which is a blessing. Man-o-man what a tedious job that is! And a guitarist. those stringy instruments that I don't. Well, it was.
