Steve Bird's Wildlife : February 2015

http://www.stevebirdwildlife.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Monday, 23 February 2015. After this success we headed down the mountain and went to a park where we found Wrentit and I got a couple of shots of Western Scrub Jays, a bird we had seen throughout the trip. Further out we saw Rhinocerous Auklets and we did have a Steller's Sea Lion. From the desert we head north through scrub where we came across Ferruginous Hawks, Tricolored Blackbirds, Mountain Bluebirds and on a small pond we had 3 Ross's Geese. The next day saw us in Pinnacles National Park where we w...

Steve Bird's Wildlife : South Brazil - Days 11 & 12

http://www.stevebirdwildlife.blogspot.com/2015/06/south-brazil-days-11-12.html

Wednesday, 3 June 2015. South Brazil - Days 11 and 12. This morning we set off after an early breakfast for Aparadas da Serra National Park. The very rare Black-capped Piprites. Piprites which gave fantastic looks. With them were Straight-billed Treehunter and Buff-fronted Foliage-gleaners. A Mottled Piculet also showed well and at last we all got reasonable views of Grey-bellied Spinetail. Moving on a little we heard a Speckle-breasted Antpitta – one of Brazil’s most. This morning we had breakfast and t...

Sunday, 26 October 2014. Last Days of our Pantanal Tour. This Collared Crescentchest showed very well to everyone. This is one of my photos of one the fabulous Harpy Eagles we saw. Seems like all the other companies missed this species. Another good reason to travel with Zoothera. You don't see many photos of flying Harpy's - my photo! Another great flight shot! Not a particular sharp shot, but it is a Horned Sungem in flight! Always a great favourite we never miss the fabulous Hyacinth Macaw. Giant Rive...

Steve Bird's Wildlife : Abruzzo National Park, Italy

http://www.stevebirdwildlife.blogspot.com/2015/07/abruzzo-national-park-italy.html

Thursday, 9 July 2015. Abruzzo National Park, Italy. This fabulous park just 2 hours from Rome is a must visit destination for anyone interested in nature. Myself, Gina and Tom arrived here straight after Gina's Sunrise Birding Tour of Northern Italy. Abruzzo National Park has high peaked mountains, beautiful rolling valleys full of flowers and butterflies, lots of birds and some very special mammals. Our first Marsican Brown Bear. There were a few other distractions including this nice Southern Skimmer.

Sunday, 29 March 2015. Male Garganey at Swanpool today. I checked out Swanpool today and was pleased to find a drake Garganey feeding near the reed bed end of the pool. It was very close and uncharacteristically tame. In addition, the female Long-tailed Duck was also there and approaching summer plumage. Links to this post. Adult Greenshank at Point today. Sunday, 7 June 2015. Squacco Heron at Marazion Marsh. Links to this post. Monday, 1 June 2015. We saw three species of hummingbird on our travels to the Gulf coastal region. Buff-bellied was commonest and Black-chinned was the scarcer of the three. We saw several Ruby-throated at High Island and Goose Island areas but elsewhere they were replaced by Buff-bellied. They are indeed blessed with good looks and intrigue and they have only made me want to see more of them! Links to this post. Over the next cou...

Steve Birkinshaw's Running Blog

Steve Birkinshaw's Running Blog. Friday, 5 June 2015. Time for a Rest. However, two years the opposite happened. Over a month I competed every weekend in a long distance Lake District fell race (about 3-4 hours of hard racing with a lot of climb). On the first one I ran really badly but then on subsequent ones I improved each time. By the end of the month I achieved some of my best performances in these races. Enjoying descending from Helvellyn via Swirral Edge. Tuesday, 19 May 2015. Normally I donate to...
