My musical career began in 1974, when at the age of 18 I joined the Hull Truck Theatre Company as an actor and musician, under the direction of Mike Bradwell, its founder. This was followed by a long and successful career in film music. Working largely alone, I produced music for hundreds of TV programmes, mostly documentaries for the BBC and Channel Four. Beckhampton Cove Experiment

THE BECKHAMPTON COVE, AVEBURY - an archaeoacoustics experiment. This project originally began as a proposal to experiment with the acoustics of the Beckhampton Cove by building three moveable plywood panels to the approximate size of the missing stones, and placing them on site to replicate the original setting. Such an arrangement of stones may also have had acoustic effects, with resonances or flutter echo. Perhaps the splayed sides of the Beckhampton Cove may have projected sound out from the cove?

On 14th and 15th July 2007, a unique experiment took place at Silbury Hill, in Wiltshire, England. But why did the builders go to so much trouble? Update: the work was finally completed in 2008). A superb Avebury website: Avebury. Ancient music specialists Simon and Maria O'Dwyer played a selection of replica instruments (dating from the stone age to the iron age) from the top of the hill, in five performances over the course of a weekend. Some of the results can be heard here as mp3s.
