The Menil Collection, Houston, TX | Please Be Seated
https://stevetokar.wordpress.com/2015/05/24/the-menil-collection-houston-tx
Visitor comfort in museums and other public spaces. Laquo; Brutalism has its charms. The Menil Collection, Houston, TX. On a recent visit to Houston, we had a chance to visit the Menil Collection. I had two major beefs. First, the labels are tiny and low-contrast — virtually unreadable unless you get right close up. If it weren’t for these two fundamental access issues, the Menil would be an excellent museum in terms of visitor experience. You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0.

Visitor comfort in museums and other public spaces. Laquo; National Museum of the American Indian. The Menil Collection, Houston, TX. Brutalism has its charms. Washington, DC is a city of many, many museums. However, most are closed by the time the working day is over, and none are usually open at night, except for movies or performances. For the daily comfort and pleasure of the average working resident, museums matter a lot less than streets, public spaces, and buildings. Designed by Marcel Breuer.

Visitor comfort in museums and other public spaces. Laquo; Freer Collection, Washington, DC. Brutalism has its charms. National Museum of the American Indian. The National Museum of the American Indian. In Washington, DC is housed in a large, impressive building on the National Mall. The “sweeping curvilinear architecture,” according to the NMAI website, is meant to help give visitors “the sense and spirit of Native America.”. On the second floor, the first thing you see is the large museum store. One ve...

Trail Talk
October 1, 2010. Several years ago I read a book titled. By Brother Yun. This house-church pastor in China was passionate about Jesus Christ. Hounded by the authorities he was on the run, frequently detained and sometimes tortured. This took a terrible toll on his family. Acquaintances feared to be seen in association with him. Intense emotions had trumped my usual concern for the wind. My heart and my body were in different realms. Defiantly, I headed straight into a fierce headwind. Perhaps...Then, app...

Please Be Seated | Visitor comfort in museums and other public spaces
Visitor comfort in museums and other public spaces. The Menil Collection, Houston, TX. May 24, 2015. On a recent visit to Houston, we had a chance to visit the Menil Collection. I had two major beefs. First, the labels are tiny and low-contrast — virtually unreadable unless you get right close up. Second, the Menil has a bad case of We’re An Art Museum, So No One Gets to Sit Down. Galleries were woefully short of seating, for no good reason that I could see except It Clashes With the Look. The Pursuit of Excellence is a Lifelong Endeavour …. August 13, 2015. So it’s the start of the PGA Championship, the final golf major of the season. The return of Rory will surely get some headlines too. Who’ll be standing with the trophy on Sunday afternoon? We’ll have to wait and see I suppose. But waiting until The Masters in April before the next major just seems like too long to hang on! Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).
