Stew In Summertime: February 2010

http://stewinsummertime.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

A tribute to my mother, who made her own rules. Why can't you have beef stew in July? Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Spiced Peanut Butter Dip. Ants on a log. you must have had one at some point as a kid. It's like having a PB&J or Peanut Butter and Banana sandwich. You know what I'm talking about, right? Celery with smeared peanut butter and raisins on top? In my mind this is the 'adult' version of an ants on a log. But go ahead and throw yours in a baggie anyway. for old times sake. 1 TBL Asian sesame oil.

Stew In Summertime: November 2009

http://stewinsummertime.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

A tribute to my mother, who made her own rules. Why can't you have beef stew in July? Monday, November 16, 2009. Me to make it. So that was what pushed me to finally do it. That and my sister, you know the one who bakes, was visiting. So let's call this a team effort. Not a real baker! A recipe. So, with the help of my sister, La, I decided to document it. The problem was my mom had adapted it so much herself. And we all kept saying 'if only she had written it down! 2 C Warm Water. 3 to 3 1/2 C Rye flour.

Stew In Summertime: Banana Bread

http://stewinsummertime.blogspot.com/2010/03/banana-bread.html

A tribute to my mother, who made her own rules. Why can't you have beef stew in July? Tuesday, March 2, 2010. I don't know about you but no matter how many bananas I buy at least one goes bad. How is it that they are green in the store and then two days later they are overripe? Adapted from Bride and Groom First and Forever Cookbook. By Mary Corpening Barber and Sara Corpening Whiteford. 1 1/2 C walnuts. 2 1/4 C all-purpose flour. 1 tsp kosher salt. 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon. 3/4 C canola oil. Spray 2 - 9x...

Stew In Summertime: March 2010

http://stewinsummertime.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

A tribute to my mother, who made her own rules. Why can't you have beef stew in July? Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Fettuccine with Short Rib Ragu. I think I just got burnt out on mashed potatoes as a kid because I'm definitely now more of a pasta lover. It's a lot easier too, but serve it however you like. Fettuccine with Short Rib Ragu. Adapted from Giada de Laurentiis. 4 to 6 servings. 3 TBL olive oil. 2 oz pancetta or prosciutto, coarsely chopped. 2 1/2 lb beef short ribs. Salt and freshly ground pepper.

Stew In Summertime: Lasagna

http://stewinsummertime.blogspot.com/2010/04/lasagna.html

A tribute to my mother, who made her own rules. Why can't you have beef stew in July? Wednesday, April 7, 2010. The thing is. I can see how she had a hard time getting it right. It's hard to get it the right consistency. So have zero interest in dry lasagna. I'll take the super liquid-y one instead. I'm pretty sure my mom would like this recipe too. Just don't tell her how it compares to my Aunt Susan's. Adapted from Ina Garten. 2 TBL Olive Oil. 1 yellow onion, chopped. 2 garlic cloves, minced. In a medi...

Wednesday, October 26, 2011. Welcome home Jamison Ryder! The night before I was induced! 7lbs 11oz and 20.5 inches long! I had to push for only 4 minutes! My mom with her 9th Grandchild (8th boy). Such a happy moment here! When he's born healthy and we are all doing great! My favorite moment when having a baby! I love this feeling :). The kids came up to the hospital so excited to meet him! What a fun time! Cole had a few rough days adjusting, but seems to be settling in now! Cole being a big brother!

Feeling Saucy: June 2010

http://feelingsaucy.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 14, 2010. So, eating seasonally. It's been on my mind. Maybe also in part because I'm currently reading Animal, Vegetable Miracle. One of my cooking tricks, seeing as it is the season of bare arms and bathing suits, is to substitute half of the mayo here for Greek-style yogurt. There are seriously (way) more calories in 2 tablespoons of mayo than a cup (yes, CUP! Adapted from Food and Wine Magazine June 2009. 1/4 cup grainy mustard (the kind that you can see the seeds. http://feelingsaucy.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 19, 2010. You are probably wondering where I've been. well, a lot of places actually. The Cleves, Hilton Head, Raleign/Durham, miscellanous 'fests' throughout the city. It's been a busy summer and let's just say the blog hasn't been my first priority. That and I really haven't done that much cooking! I do have some good recipes for you though. Good summer grilling recipes. Just not today. It's just that during my last vacation my computer screen smashed (tear! Wish me luck on my computer!

Monday, August 9, 2010. Barley Salad with Parsley and Walnuts. As a replacement, but unfortunately the camera is "lost" as my mom would say. As in a place something goes with no explanation as to where or why, never to return and with it my vacation photos and photos of a delicious quinoa salad that I had forgotten to download prior to vacation (damn! Besides, the quinoa salad is SO last summer. This one is especially my go-to because it doesn't even require a trip to the grocery store! Don't be scared b...

Wednesday, September 1, 2010. Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad. This has been on my blog list for months. Months I tell you! What is your blog list", you ask? Apparently that's all I've been cooking this summer because the last three posts that I have done have been picnic sides with one type of grain or another and all are photographed in the large bowl that I transported them in. Did you notice not one photo was on a plate? You just found it. Sun-Dried Tomato Pasta Salad. Serves 6 to 8. 4-6 TBL olive oil (...
