July | 2012 | Stories in the Street

http://storiesinthestreet.com/2012/07

Stories in the Street. Monthly Archives: July 2012. 8220;Rudy’s Cup” Friends. July 19, 2012. We have a tradition at our house. When kids visit, they get a Rudy’s bar-b-que cup with their name on it. 8220;Ya’ll come back now, ya’ hear? This was born partly because we had a bajillion Rudy’s cups leftover from various events, and partly because I hate when someone uses a cup, puts it down, forgets it’s his cup and gets a new one. By the end of some days, we’d have fifteen half-full cups lying around. In Nov...

Stories in the Street. From family vacations to a nine-and-a-half month trip around the world we love finding stories in the streets. March 29, 2014. I have always been passionate about finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. The theme creeps into my books, into this blog, and into pictures taken spontaneously on my iphone, as I’m struck by some such ordinary, extraordinary thing. New Yorkers may find this sight ordinary, but this Texan was astonished. It’s buried! I cannot tell you how satisfying it ...

For all the Rebeka fans out there, the ones who followed her journey to Texas, her surgeries and casts, those who prayed for her and cheered for her and loved her story, here’s another little chapter. My dad, my sister, and her three kids recently traveled to Rwanda and while there, they were able to visit Rebeka. From left to right, Wyatt, Leslie, Rebeka, Emma, and Claire, with my dad in back. Stories in the Street. Family generates some of the best stories. These Shoes Are Meant for Walking. August 30, 2014. I’ve been reading this great book by N.D. Wilson. These words struck a chord with me. They reminded me of Benji’s shoes. See, our kids wear uniforms to school, and at the beginning of the year they get nice, new shoes. Regulation brown shoes like these:. Benji’s 2014-15 school shoes. As we were getting ready for school this year, I discovered Benji’s old pair of shoes from last year.

Stories in the Street. Extraordinary Carrots →. Finding Eden on Hog Eye Road. March 20, 2014. I’ve posted about growing tomatoes. And hoping toadopt a baby girl from Honduras. And not adopting a baby girl from Honduras. I’ve posted Rebeka’s story. From Rwanda to Austin and back again, about the unfurling of her feet and her personality. Lately I’ve encountered some amazing people, and I thought I’d share some of their stories here. Entrance to Community First! Village on Hog Eye Road. Will be a 27 acre m...

weAndersons: One week home

http://weandersons.blogspot.com/2013/02/one-week-home.html

Wednesday, February 13, 2013. So now we are home a week! He is eating very well. No problems there. We are making food available to him whenever he wants it, which sometimes is less than an hour after he has eaten something, but at this point we are not going to deny him food. In terms of communication, I do think he has picked up another word or two. It's not completely clear, but is consistent. I talk to him all day long, and he probably wonders, "when will this lady stop talking? Day 22: We fly home!

Monday, May 06, 2013. I keep counting in my head: March, April, May.yes, it has been exactly three months since we arrived home with the little mister, who is right now having his nap. Since he's a short napper, I'll have to type this out quick, or I will never get to it. I'd like to keep it that way for a long long time! He didn't miss a beat! It is impossible to describe how much joy he has brought to my life, and my life is already quite high on the joy meter! I am a very blessed woman. We've seen mor...

Thursday, August 30, 2012. Things we brought or wish we had. I'm taking re-entry slow and sticking with an easy topic. Personally, I felt we did a bang-up job with packing things for our son for the first trip. Keep in mind he is twenty months old, and not all these things will work for other ages, but they may spark some ideas for those of you that are dreaming about your first trip. 4 Bubbles. I don't know any child that doesn't like bubbles. 5 Balloons. ditto, and they take up very little space. 14 Di...
