I wasn't going to dignify the ridiculously biased GMA segment on Unschooling with a response. But the more I read the more furious it makes me! My son's knowledge of geography and trivial minutiae is astounding, he can tell you facts about countries I didn't even know existed. Last night I was telling a friend (yes, we have lots of those! As loving parents...

Home's Cool: September 2010

Join us on our Unschooling ed-venture. Thursday, September 9, 2010. As I see my friends' children going back to school, and hear the sadness as the Mom's have empty houses, I am reminded of how truly blessed we are to be living this life. It is a tradition, on the first day of public school, for homeschoolers. Bus comes, and friends are gone for hours and hours! So, to celebrate freedom from all of that tedium, we go to the beach! And Tom Cruise and Suri. Yesterday, Wednesday, we had our celebration with...

All of the comments in the time I was listening were from callers appalled at the audacity of a judge to declare one religion over another. Maybe I am missing something, but I do not see this as a religious issue, nor do I see it as a Church vs State matter. What did these two talk about prior to marriage? Labels: Church v State.

Join us on our Unschooling ed-venture. Monday, September 7, 2009. See you in September. So here it is Labor Day, the unofficial. End to summer. This is the beginning of my favorite time here on the East End. While we are sad to see some of our "summer friends. We school year round, but an annual tradition I am honored to continue is the "Back to No School Beach Day". When I first began homeschooling on the East End the celebration was held @ Wildwood. My kids eat more canned peaches. It has been at least...

Home's Cool: What is Unschooling?
http://thriceblest.blogspot.com/2011/05/what-is-unschooling.html
Join us on our Unschooling ed-venture. Wednesday, May 4, 2011. I often get asked to define Unschooling, and have never really been able to provide a definition. I am going to try harder! Unschooling is about Trust. I trust that my children will retain the curiosity with which they were born. I trust that they will search to satisfy that curiosity, and turn to me when they need a nudge. I trust that they are loving, kind, generous human beings and will behave in such a manner as often as possible. East En...

Join us on our Unschooling ed-venture. Thursday, October 8, 2009. I love my boy. After a fun day @ Pumpkintown and making pottery, it is finally time to settle in and get some work done. Because of Kenny III's recent math aversion I have started allowing him to do 1 problem in each section, and if he gets it right on his own he is done. If it is incorrect he has to keep doing that section until he completes it, correctly, alone. I had to walk away to keep from laughing at him! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Join us on our Unschooling ed-venture. Thursday, July 8, 2010. Summer is for playing. Last night on the beach I had the great pleasure of chatting with several moms while our kids played volleyball. The group consisted of 3 homeschool. Moms, 1 mom who's always homeschooled. Older son went to PHS. This year and whose younger son remains homeschooled. And the last mom has 3 kids always PS'd. This is a lovely bunch of women who I respect greatly, and enjoy each time we are together. This is ludicrous to me.

Join us on our Unschooling ed-venture. Wednesday, June 3, 2009. School, School, School. There is a paragraph in Harlen Coben's. That struck me: "School removes children from their warm parental cocoon. School teaches them to bully or be bullied. School teaches them to be cruel to one another. School teaches them that Mommy and Daddy lied to them when they told them they were special and unique.". I had a converstation. My son has been going to the skate park @ Stotsky. This is a lesson we strive for in o...

Home's Cool: Plans are for buildings, not people
http://thriceblest.blogspot.com/2011/06/plans-are-for-buildings-not-people.html
Join us on our Unschooling ed-venture. Saturday, June 11, 2011. Plans are for buildings, not people. Today at the gym a mom asked me what my kids do all day without the "regiment" (her word) of school. I hope I was able to hide my feeling of disgust, as it took me a minute to compose myself. My first thought was "What a ridlcuous. I asked her how her family spent their Saturdays or vacation time, then (I hope) politely told her that for us, every day was vacation. The A/C on our leased Volkswagon. And as...

Home's Cool: Back to No School

Join us on our Unschooling ed-venture. Wednesday, September 7, 2011. Back to No School. It's that time again. The big yellow can with windows is making stops all over town, collecting children and depositing them into the various prisons, I mean schools. And learn how to make the best of a pile of challenges. It was a blessing to us to share that time with her. This year the kids have explored many new interests, and I am grateful everyday to be able to support them as they follow their passions.
