A field notebook of suburban life. How is your midlife crisis treating you? For me, I want to throw more parties, do more higher-level charity work, and write. Maybe start a rock band of like-minded women, and secretly rock out in the garage. I bet Lilly Pulitzer would do an electric guitar, if we asked. They’ve done bikes and jeeps; how hard could it be? Take up golf, again. Travel. Live a life with less stuff, and more experiences. 9 More Inches: Write Your Own Joke, Here. First time in snow pants!

A field notebook of suburban life. Posted in Suburban Field Notes. The temperature finally crossed the freezing line and for the first time in six weeks I was able to get my car out of the garage. Oh, sweet freedom! I ran errands. But it still counts as freedom, right? I had a coffee I didn’t make in one hand, and for a few seconds in each parking lot I paused to enjoy the slightly-more-than-freezing temperatures. Twenty, thirty-five, fifty. How is your midlife crisis treating you? This weekend, an old f...

October 16, 2008. That’s Mark at prom ’76 and me at Prom ’78. Who knew one day we’d be doing the dance of life together. Look at his sweet girlfriend. Is there a fly on the end of my nose? John McCain – I coulda been a contenda! October 16, 2008. The candidates faced off again in tonight’s debate. A look at human nature, random musings and more than you want to know about me. He Had a Good Life at 95. A Romantic Weekend →. December 19, 2012. I proposed something earth shattering today. I proposed to my parents and my sister, that we open our Christmas presents on Christmas morning, instead of Christmas Eve night. We knew we wouldn't be traveling, as a surgery spot might open up, but we adventured near by as much as possible. Kevin Jones Performing Arts Camp. The production at the end of the week was Spamalot - hilarious! Trefoil - described as the best week, other than Christmas, of the year. Maggie is off this week to tubing and whitewater rafting camp! Spent a morning tubing on the James river.

Saturday, January 31, 2015. Eion's Birthday: The Final Chapter. Not having discovered any additional invitees, it was the birthday party day. E's plan went off without a hitch. We picked up the boys and started with present opening, because they felt they might need to use them during the party. And clearly, they were right. What party is complete without a Minecraft torch? Because I Know You Really Care, I've Left Turbotax After 19 Years. I had a number of Monday morning quarterbacks, ahem, Morrigan and...

Thursday, May 28, 2015. From The Files Of "You've Got To Be Kidding Me," I Now Have A High Schooler. Yesterday was the 8th grade graduation ceremony, which one might be tempted to blow off, but as my 8th grade music teacher told us, "For some of you, this might be your last graduation.". We went, naturally. We made the whole family go, which I wasn't sure was the right play, until Maggie started listing off the credits she planned to have after her name in two years. Lit a fire that ceremony did. I can b...
