Sunrise/Sunset and Nature Photography. I decided to separate my aviation interests from my nature photography, which gave rise to SunBits. This will be a space where I share my nature photos for your enjoyment! First up is the Capital Building in Washington, DC earlier this month. These shots came from a want to capture fall color on the National Mall. The unfortunate part was the lack of colorful leaves on the trees. I did eventually find the color as the sun set. Douglas XT3D-1 Torpedo Bomber. Interesting design with all metal wing structure covered with fabric submitted as a replacement for the Martin T4M. The performance of the three seat T3D-1 was not sufficiently superior to the T4M and was sent back to Douglas for modification into the T3D-2. Neither aircraft resulted in a production contract. NATS R5D Overhauls at NAS Moffett Field 1946-47. Hanger 3 at NAS Moffett Field was home to Naval Air Transport Service Douglas R5D aircraft overhauls in the mid to late 1940s. OA-4M a fairly rare and interesting conversion of the TA-4F Skyhawk. Ultimaely 23 TA-4Fs were converted into OA-4M Fast FAC aircraft. This aircraft TA-4F 154307 transited El Paso, TX on a ferry flight to NARF Pensacola on February 29, 1980. It was fresh from MCAS Yuma in the colors of VMAT-102. Lone Star Lady II. B-52H 61-0017 93BS/307BW at JRB Fort Worth for Airpower Expo 2016. She carries the name "Lone Star Lady II" in tribute to the original Lone Star Lady B-52D 55-0067 and to Honor all Vietnam Veterans. EF-18G 166895 Starwarriors New Ride. At the recent Airpower Expo 2016 JRB Fort Worth VAQ-209 provided one of the highlights to the static park with two of their EF-18G Growler aircraft.
