Sunflower Food Galore: Trotter and ginger in sweetened black vinegar 姜醋猪手

http://sunflower-recipes.blogspot.com/2012/01/trotter-and-ginger-in-sweetened-black.html

Mainly about Tastes of the Orient. Tuesday, 17 January 2012. Trotter and ginger in sweetened black vinegar 姜醋猪手. So can everyone eat this gingery vinegary pork? This stew is a labour of love and will take a long time to prepare so it's not for you if you just want to rush it and eat within an hour or two. This will take about 2 days to prepare and cook and another day or night refraining from eating so the flavour can get better. So if you like this and looking for a recipe here is how to prepare this.

Sunflower Food Galore: May 2011

http://sunflower-recipes.blogspot.com/2011/05

Mainly about Tastes of the Orient. Monday, 30 May 2011. Back to basics - crispy fried garlic 炸蒜米. 炸 (zha) = deep fried. 蒜 (suan) = garlic. 米 (mee) = normally this word is rice, but in this context it means tiny pieces. Crispy fried garlic like crispy fried shallot is very common in S E Asia. Chopped garlic is deep fried till golden it is not bitter but has slightly sweet, caramelised and strong garlicy flavour and deliciously crunchy. Only two ingredients are needed, plenty of garlic and cooking oil.

Sunflower Food Galore: Stir fried rice cake 炒年糕

http://sunflower-recipes.blogspot.com/2012/01/stir-fried-rice-cake.html

Mainly about Tastes of the Orient. Tuesday, 31 January 2012. Stir fried rice cake 炒年糕. A late Chinese New Year to all! This is the year of the dragon. 祝大家龍年快樂, 事事如意, 行好運發大財! 年糕 'nian gao' or rice cake is eaten by many during this festive season. Nian gao is auspicious because it rhymes with the lucky phrase 年高 (also read as 'nian gao') or 年年高升 'nian nian gao sheng', roughly translated to English as 'achieving advancements/promotions year after year'. Japanese have plain mochi blocks which are sold semi d...

Eat Family: December 2008

http://eatfamily.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, 13 December 2008. Two Ways for Pork Belly. Now I remember a time when pork belly was one of the cheapest cuts that you could buy. But every now and then as with other "cheaper" cuts of meat, they come into fashion so inevitably the price increases with demand. It's like how Nigella. Made lamb shanks treble in price (and tagines. A commonplace cooking utensil in UK kitchens). Even so, more and more people are buying pork belly but how to cook it? To impart flavour to the meat, rub salt and five-...

Pictures for the header and about masak geng are compliments of yuin yi- awesome chef and great photographer. Saturday, October 23, 2010. Mille Crepe Attempt 1. It was a friend's birthday some three weeks ago, and the usual overambitious, curious me decided to try out the Mille Crepe recipe. That I've been eyeing for about a few months now. It doesn't look as nicely assembled at the one in the cafe in Melaka, but it looks good nonetheless. So it was a pretty interesting experiment, and the crepes turned ...

Communiqués from abroad and recipes shared among friends. April 8, 2011. I forgot to mention the best part of our visit to Hampton Bays: the part where we got home and ate the oysters that we got there. I don't think that there is another food thing that I have a more intense relationship with. Wonderful, other-worldly oysters. We had some with a bit of lemon and diced onion; others with freshly-grated horseradish. All were the usual extraordinary exercise in communing with the sea. Links to this post.
