Saturday, January 11, 2014. Dyeing in the Lud Valley with India Flint - Part 2. But wait. there's more. We moved swiftly onto the fabric, stitching all the pieces we used with our personal marks so we could identify them easily when they came out the cauldrons. A genius idea - otherwise there really would have been tears before bedtime! Offering untold dyeing opportunities. I just love the shapes, colour and fragrance they impart on to the fabric. Sustaining Stitches: September 2011

Sunday, September 18, 2011. Needle Still In Hand. I'm pleased to report that slow but steady progress is being made on the stitching front at my house - it's not world shattering but from where I stand it's better than nothing. I have finished the bonnet and it will soon be heading off to Australia to join the Roses from the Heart. Was asking, you can find out more here. You can't see too much of the. Sustaining Stitches: October 2012

http://sustainingstitches.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 28, 2012. There be dragons and sea creatures this way. We had a few days away last week over the hill from Wellington, in the Wairarapa. Our timing could not have been better. Even through the weather was less than spring like, the Greytown Arts festival was in full swing giving us plenty to look at and to stow away for inspiration. The highlight for us was the Great. Unsurprisingly I was also rather impressed by these rusted feathers on a very large moa in the main street of Greytown.

Sustaining Stitches: February 2012

http://sustainingstitches.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 8, 2012. What trip away would be complete without the odd textile treasure snapped along the way. This well dressed cabbage tree was at the bottom of Baldwin St in Dunedin. Baldwin St has the distinction of being the steepest street in the world. How steep? This should give you an idea. There are obviously a few characters on the street - I loved this letter box. Let me know if you are inspired to pick up the needles - there could be a retailer waiting for your work in Queenstown.

Sustaining Stitches: Hello 2014! Starting with a recap on 2013....

http://sustainingstitches.blogspot.com/2014/01/hello-2014-starting-with-recap-on-2013.html

Saturday, January 4, 2014. Starting with a recap on 2013. Well it seems that last year I fell off the blog-o-sphere. This year I'm going to get back on it! I blame pinterest and the ipad I bought myself early last year. easy trap to fall into. However I did manage to keep stitching while I was off the air and I thought that there was no better place to start than with a recap of what I haven't posted about. First and foremost I wanted it to be a masculine quilt so I reached for a pile of my kimono fabrics.

Textiles on the Edge. (of the Planet). Clare Smith - textiles, art and travels. Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Travels, Art and Textiles : Boston. Dry it off with paper towels and put it on some old newspaper. Using fabric paint and a 2 inch housepainting brush, paint the fish upwards towards the head. This forces paint under the scales which gives a better print. Try not to paint too thickly and don't leave brush marks as they will show on your print. Friday, July 17, 2009.

Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Mommy, are monsters real? I can't keep track of how many times my 5 year old has asked me this question. And I have always told him, "No honey, Monsters aren't real.". At least not the kind of monsters he is talking about. How do you tell your children that? How do you explain to them that though Vampires, witches, werewolves, and closet monsters don't exist, that real living, breathing monsters do, without terrifying them? Every time a new person says hello to them. I feel like ...
