Birding,Beer & Skittles: October 2014
http://birdingbeerandskittles.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Birding,Beer and Skittles. Tuesday, 14 October 2014. Memories of Cape May, New Jersey Day 8. Our last early start of the trip, up at 5:45 am and out to Higbee for one final time. There was nothing in the way of migration but we did see a flock of scoters which flew behind the tree line in front of us and then didn't re-appear. We made our way down to the beach and saw them on the shoreline, identifying them as Black (Common) Scoters. A walk out to the beach produced a single Surf Scoter. Back at the car ...

Birding,Beer and Skittles. Wednesday, 25 February 2015. Last night I was in Yeovil , at the Octagon Theatre to see the wonderful Unthanks. The Unthanks are (Currently) a ten piece folk group who fuse traditional Northumbrian folk with other genres to make haunting and melancholic tunes and who are fronted by the clog dancing sisters Becky and Rachel Unthank. The tour is to promote their latest album (their 8th) 'Mount the Air' which has been two years in the making. Sunday, 22 February 2015. Yesterday my...

Birding,Beer & Skittles: A Walk in the Black Forest.
http://birdingbeerandskittles.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-walk-in-black-forest.html
Birding,Beer and Skittles. Monday, 8 June 2015. A Walk in the Black Forest. Last Friday, the 29th, I headed off to Gatwick after leaving work at 12:30pm to spend the weekend in Germany with my daughter and her fiance. There was plenty to keep me occupied with a large group of Common Kestrels, the most I'd ever seen at one time,Common Redstart, Yellowhammer and fly over Common Buzzards and Ravens. At the next and last vineyard I again opted for the car park and was rewarded with good views of a Hoopoe.

Birding,Beer & Skittles: May 2013
http://birdingbeerandskittles.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Birding,Beer and Skittles. Thursday, 16 May 2013. Last Saturday Andy J and I made our way 'over the border' to Cardiff to see the legendary Genesis guitarist and song writer Steve Hackett. First stop here was the Great Western, another Wetherspoons. This was very busy and with loud music playing was not our sort of venue. The selection of real ales was limited as well, but they did have a Kite Brewery ale, Cwrw Gorslas, which was a very good beer. I went first for a Dark, a classic mild at 3.5% with ...

Birding,Beer & Skittles: The Things We Do........
http://birdingbeerandskittles.blogspot.com/2015/02/the-things-we-do.html
Birding,Beer and Skittles. Sunday, 22 February 2015. The Things We Do. Yesterday myself and three of the usual suspects headed off to Bristol to see 70's pop legends 10CC at the Colston Hall. We set off around 4:30pm with the intention of visiting a couple of Bristol's best hostelry's as well. We arrived around 6pm and made straight for The Famous Royal Navy Volunteer in King Street. Nicknamed the 'Volly' and housed in a 17th century building it offers a wide range of cask and 'craft keg' ales. The band ...

Birding,Beer & Skittles: Out There
http://birdingbeerandskittles.blogspot.com/2015/06/out-there.html
Birding,Beer and Skittles. Wednesday, 3 June 2015. Saturday the 23rd of May saw me heading off to London to see Paul McCartney at the O2. I had paid over the 'odds' for my ticket through Viagogo and had been told that I was wasting my money as he was past his best and his voice wasn't what it was. But Hey! He was a Beatle and that was all I needed to know! I checked into my Premier Inn in Greenwich around 5:30pm and then rather than get the train or Bus I splashed out on a cab to take me to the venue.

Birding,Beer & Skittles: January 2015
http://birdingbeerandskittles.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Birding,Beer and Skittles. Saturday, 31 January 2015. Westhay NNR and Ham Wall. Today I headed up to the Somerset Levels with the aim of trying to connect with the Firecrest that's been around for most of the month. Due to a late night playing skittles, and losing in the first round of the knockout cup, I didn't get off to a very early start leaving home around 9:15am and arriving at Westhay just after 10am. Getting a decent photo took a little longer though. I added 8 species to my year list today and i...

Birding,Beer & Skittles: Judging by the Taste !
http://birdingbeerandskittles.blogspot.com/2015/04/judging-by-taste.html
Birding,Beer and Skittles. Thursday, 23 April 2015. Judging by the Taste! Last week I was at one of my favourite beer fest's , Tuckers Maltings in Newton Abbot. This SIBA south west regional competition attracts brewers and their products from all over the West Country, including the Channel Isles. All went to plan and by 10am we had collected our accreditation and were waiting for the call to take our places on the Maltings floor. In the second round I was trying small pack strong ales, much more to my ...

Birding,Beer & Skittles: One of those days
http://birdingbeerandskittles.blogspot.com/2015/04/one-of-those-days.html
Birding,Beer and Skittles. Sunday, 26 April 2015. One of those days. Yesterday was one of those days when nothing seems like its going to plan, but for all the right reasons! Andy and I had a tentative plan to 'twitch' the Pied Billed-Grebe in Gloucestershire but ended up diverting to the levels when news of a MEGA came out on birdguides and had us whizzing through the Somerset countryside (in my new wheels) to Meare Heath for the Uk's third ever record of a Hudsonian Godwit. Now you see me. Back to the ...

Birding,Beer & Skittles: May 2014
http://birdingbeerandskittles.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Birding,Beer and Skittles. Tuesday, 13 May 2014. On the 3rd May I booked to see the Bay City Rollers in September. Always one of Mir's favorites she's been keen to see them for a long time. There are three of the classic line up left, Alan White, Steve Howe and founder member Chris Squire. We were worried that the vocalist would not be able to match Jon Anderson's unique vocals but Jon Davidson (even the name was close) was a very good substitute. A very good three hours entertainment. On the 11th Mir ag...
