The Abacos, week one | svsecondoption

Welcome Aboard s/v Second Option. The Abacos, week one. We departed Spanish Wells on 22 February and went to Royal Island in preparation to cross to the Abacos. We had a relaxing afternoon of reading and just chilling on the boat. By late morning, the waves were 3-5 feet then grew to 5-7 and were confused coming from various directions. The Little Harbor Cut was a challenge with waves being 3-5 and breaking in the cut. We were surfing into the harbor area and our boat does not surf very well. After lunch...
Pipe Creek | svsecondoption
http://svsecondoption.com/2015/01/10/pipe-creek
Welcome Aboard s/v Second Option. We departed Black Point on 5 January and headed for Pipe Creek. The winds were ESE so we were able to sail most of the way. We entered between Pipe Cay and Little Pipe Cay and anchored at the marked anchorage on the charts. The water was pretty skinny going into the anchorage and we had to zigzag around a reef but we did not see anything less than seven feet. Second Option at Pipe Creek. Bill pulling the dink across a sandbar. Our tidal swimming pool. Bill, you were rubb...

svsecondoption | Welcome Aboard s/v Second Option
Welcome Aboard s/v Second Option. Home at Solomons, Maryland. As many of you already know, we have returned to the Chesapeake Bay and are in our home port of Solomons, Maryland. Coming out of St Simons, GA. It was definitely April Fool’s Day as the weather was nice when we started this offshore trip but our ride northward was very rough in 20-28 knots of wind coupled with 5-7 foot seas. Sunrise on the Bull River, SC. Early morning fog on the Neuse River. Sliding together with granddaughter. On Friday 13t...

S/V Second Star | Piratical Misadventures
March 11, 2015. We outfitted Second Star with oversized anchors and lots of chain before we left. It is easier to sleep knowing you are less likely to drag in poor holding conditions or when the wind pipes up. Two nights ago, the wind piped UP! At this point I got everyone on deck…in life jackets…and we raised our anchor, making a hasty departure. I would much rather watch this game from the sidelines than be on the field, discretion being the better part of valor and all that. Den monkeys got no style!
