Silly Old Goat: New born kids
http://sillyoldgoat.blogspot.com/2013/09/new-born-kids.html
Sunday, 22 September 2013. 9th September 2013 was a special day for at least two reasons. No2 our goat kids were born. I had 'pre-ordered' the kids from a local farmer, I said I didn't mind what colour or size, I just wanted two females. On the 11th September I went to collect them from the goat farm. It produces milk for the goat cheese business. There are about 200 nanny goats there and most of had birthed their kids. I was handed two wriggling bundles and popped them into a moving carton.

Thursday, 26 September 2013. I'm not sure how hot it was here today, but it was warmer and more humid outside than in the house. Thunderstorms were forecast, but didn't happen, yet! I took the gruesome twosome for a walk around the garden this afternoon. Bigger kid is eating every leaf she finds and especially likes the fallen acacia leaves. Bolt isn't sure about the goats yet, he keeps well away. Sitting quietly, two grasshoppers. These guys can grow really big - up to 3 inches long.

Finding Nature Close to Home. Thursday, June 6, 2013. NEW YEAR'S DAY HIKE - PLACERITA CANYON. I started out on the Manzanita Peak Trail, thinking I'd do a little summit. It starts out pretty easy, but then got really steep, with some pretty tall steps to surmount. When I got back down, I decided to warm up with some coffee and a snack at the day use picnic tables. It was quite chilly and very windy, so a brew sounded good. I MISS MY BLOG! After Blogger changed the way we can load up photos, forcing us to...

Urban Wild: A VERY SAD DAY FOR AMERICA - NATIONAL PARKS CLOSED
http://urbanwildhome.blogspot.com/2013/10/a-very-sad-day-for-america-national.html
Finding Nature Close to Home. Tuesday, October 1, 2013. A VERY SAD DAY FOR AMERICA - NATIONAL PARKS CLOSED. Government Closes Yosemite as Google Celebrates the Park. I have lost any faith or hope in our government. Every branch of it is occupied by self-serving and selfish politicians who do a great injustice to the constituents they serve. I like to keep the tone of my blog positive, but this event is one that is not easy to ignore. This is a sad day indeed. Although not without precedence (they've ...

Urban Wild: AUTUMN EQUINOX - CELEBRATING THE NATURAL WORLD
http://urbanwildhome.blogspot.com/2013/09/autumn-equinox-celebrating-natural-world.html
Finding Nature Close to Home. Sunday, September 22, 2013. AUTUMN EQUINOX - CELEBRATING THE NATURAL WORLD. 8220;The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”. In the play of sunlight on leaves;. In the pungent-sweet scent. Of sun-warmed pine needles;. In the music of water. Gurgling over smooth stones;. In the flutter of bird wings. Just out of sight;. In the mysterious cobalt blue. That enfolds the word at dusk;. In the bright mantel of stars. Poem by Linda Navroth).

Finding Nature Close to Home. Monday, August 13, 2012. RETURN TO MT. PINOS. There's something magical about this area; Mt. Pinos itself is sacred to the Chumash Tribe and considered the center of their universe. I believe all forests are sacred, and as such, are imbued with special meaning and beauty that begs our worship. The forest is mixed conifer of huge, ancient Jeffrey Pine, Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir. The meadow margins were filled with tall lupine in bloom. The odd buckling and undulations of...

Finding Nature Close to Home. Sunday, November 25, 2012. HIKE THROUGH A STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL PLACE. I'd done the Mishe Mokwa Trail in the Santa Monica Mountains close to 20 years ago. It was so long ago I don't remember much about it or whether or not I did the whole 6 mile loop. But I decided on a repeat trip and I did plan on doing the 6 miles. A sample of what lay ahead. The trail starts along Carlisle Canyon, with views towards the ocean on one side, and towards Thousand Oaks on the other side.

Finding Nature Close to Home. Monday, April 23, 2012. FISH FOR MY BIRTHDAY. Headed up to the mountains on Saturday for some fly fishing on a tributary of the the Santa Ana River. This small water holds quite a few fish despite its narrow width; one using an 8'6" 5WT rod is kind of over-doing it, but that's the lightest rod I have right now. It fought hard and I brought it in quickly so as not to stress it unreasonably, took a quick look at its golden-jeweled flanks, and let it go. I didn't catch anymore ...

Finding Nature Close to Home. Thursday, September 26, 2013. A GLORIOUS MORNING, FULL OF CLOUDS AGAIN. Before dawn the clouds were merely gray puffs moving across the sky. The entire sky in every direction was full of clouds. But as the sun began to rise, the riot of color began, especially in the east. (Notice the wave clouds to the right, in the distance, above the three tree fingers.). The waning gibbous moon made an appearance from behind clouds with the first blush of dawn on their cheeks. Beginning ...
