The Cold and Darkness. December 4, 2010 · Filed under Uncategorized. This is my 9th Winter in Alaska. I think the novelty of a White Christmas has worn off a bit this year. Yes… I love the beauty of everything blanketed in whiteness… but I DO NOT love the cold and darkness. I’m not even going to pretend anymore. I want to remember those below zero days when your nostrils and eyelashes freeze just by running out to the car. I want to remember slipping on icy roads and sidewalks. To date it is the longest road trip we have taken the kids on ( 6 hours one way). They did great! It poured in Valdez the whole time we were there, but we had a blast!
