Enjoying the artistic side of life. Sunday, May 30, 2010. Memorial Day weekend project. This weekend I was determined to try quilting for the very first time. My dear friend Maki and I learned how to quilt from her friend one Saturday in March but since then I have not have a chance to try it. I have been collecting fabrics and been looking at them once in a while imagining what I would like to make. Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Small kitchens and an orange carrot brioche. The kitchen is where I spend a lot ...

Enjoying the artistic side of life. Saturday, July 10, 2010. Strawberries and Raspberries Picking. For the July 4th weekend my husband and I decided to take our daughter strawberry picking at a farm in Arlington. Picking strawberries is actually hard work! My daughter and I got tired easily but my husband was so excited he was out of control. Soon we had assembly line. My husband would pick the berry, I would hand them to our daughter, and she would put them in the container. Here's the catch of the day.

Tulips and Butter: Cooking magazine
http://tulipsandbutter.blogspot.com/2011/09/cooking-magazine.html
Enjoying the artistic side of life. Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Does this ever happen to you? I feel like it happens a lot to me. Regardless, I really wanted to try out this prosciutto-wrapped pork loin cover recipe but cooking it for just one family would be too much so I invited my good friends Quynh, Daniel, and Danee to share in the bounty. I love having them over for dinner. By the way, my friend Quynh took these pictures with my camera. She is my role model. She can do everything! Thank you so m...

Tulips and Butter: October 2011
http://tulipsandbutter.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Enjoying the artistic side of life. Sunday, October 9, 2011. One person's trash is another's treasure. I love checking out Craigslist for used furniture. One lucky day I found an old dresser for free on Craigslist and I asked my husband to immediately fetch it for me. It was not in the best of condition. It was very dirty, old, and had no drawer knobs. However despite all of this I saw real potential and decided to keep it. And voilà, here is the renewed dresser! Sunday, October 2, 2011. It's hard to bel...

http://tulipsandbutter.blogspot.com/2011/09/recycling-my-daughters-dress.html
Enjoying the artistic side of life. Saturday, September 17, 2011. Recycling my daughter's dress. Seattle had some beautiful sunny days this August and I was hoping we might have an Indian summer. Unfortunately September brought autumn with it and the cold rainy weather we are known for was not far behind. I decided to go through my daughter's summer clothes and sort into donation, clothes for my neice, and what simply needs to be thrown away. Don't forget about details. Ribbon! LOL, Taji,. You are mu ido...

Enjoying the artistic side of life. Saturday, September 17, 2011. Lunch boxes photos (September 12 16). My daughter did much better eating her vegetables this week. I am a happy mom. Also I am getting better at packing lunch in the morning. I can pack it in about 20 minutes or so on avarage. The key is to prepare some of food the night before, use leftovers from dinner, and use frozen food wisely. Rice, Japanese version of cod fish meuniere, carrot and gobo root stir fry, broccoli, grapess. She knows the...

Enjoying the artistic side of life. Thursday, June 17, 2010. So You Think You Cannot Cook. I had to ask myself, what would be the best way to motivate him to learn to cook for me? Why not teach him how to make one of his favorites that I always cook, and make sure it was easy! Pork and Bok Choy with Oyster Sauce. 1 lb of thinly sliced pork (butt and shoulder cut) for Sukiyaki cut into about 1 inch square. Asian grocery stores will have this prepackaged. 8 bok choy sliced in 1/2 inch pieces. When spring f...

Tulips and Butter: Fun way to keep your children's art work
http://tulipsandbutter.blogspot.com/2011/09/fun-way-to-keep-your-childrens-art-work.html
Enjoying the artistic side of life. Saturday, September 24, 2011. Fun way to keep your children's art work. My daughter loves to draw and of course I think she is really good at it too. What I love about her drawings the most is discovering how she views the world differently from me. I have been keeping many of her drawings thinking someday I will frame and hang them on the wall. Recently though I have found a new and unique way to preserve her artwork. Mom has to do what makes her happy sometimes. ...

Tulips and Butter: Easy Japanese Lunch
http://tulipsandbutter.blogspot.com/2010/05/easy-japanese-lunch.html
Enjoying the artistic side of life. Thursday, May 13, 2010. A lot of my friends think cooking Japanese food is difficult or complicated. It can be, but a lot are easy to make and I would like to show you some of the simple foods I cook and hopefully get others interested in cooking them too. I had to pack lunch for us this morning but I did not have a lot of time to prepare something fancy lunch. I decided to make. If you know how to cook rice, scramble eggs, and boil water, you can make this in 30 min!
