Thursday, July 25, 2013. Christ of the Mines Shrine. The Christ of the Mines Shrine is a 12-ton, 16-feet tall marble statue of Jesus Christ overlooking the town of Silverton, up on Anvil Mountain on the north side of town. The shrine was built 54 years ago for prosperity and protection for the mining industry. I found an interesting article from the Silverton Standard titled How the Shrine Was Built.
