Tattered and Lost EPHEMERA

S S President Cleveland ON THE HIGH SEAS UPDATE! This is an update to a post done on July 9, 2009. In October of 2014 I received an interesting comment from a reader. The fella has now followed up with a fascinating post of his dangerous voyage. Scroll down to the "UPDATE" to read his harrowing memory. I can close my eyes and remember standing aboard ship and watching the sun set on the horizon as we sailed to Hawaii, each day feeling the sea breeze grow warmer. I wish I could experience it again. Click on the image to see it larger. Links to this post. BLACK INK on the fingers. Haven't touched a pen point in years. They're here somewhere in my desk, I think. I sort of miss them.along with that black stain on my index finger. If a match didn't strike did you put it in an envelope and mail it to Good Housekeeping? What sort of proof did they require? And if they believed you did you get a refund? For the entire box? Or just those that didn't burn? Was it an attorney? And if you're still reading thi...

Tattered and Lost EPHEMERA: Little KLAUS the PAPER DOLL

http://tatteredandlostephemera.blogspot.com/2015/02/little-klaus-paper-doll.html

Little KLAUS the PAPER DOLL. I did, and my stomach sank. Fortunately when the 29 pounds of paper arrived I changed my mind. Hundreds of paper dolls, all neatly arranged in envelopes for those that were cut, and nicely labeled. It had been a collection that had belonged to a librarian who had died. I put many of them in albums, but there are still several hundred to go. This little fella, Klaus, is in a booklet that contains 3 dolls. He's a keeper. Tattered and Lost: The Quiet Art of Reading. Tattered and Lost EPHEMERA: WHICH PAPER DOLL is this?

http://tatteredandlostephemera.blogspot.com/2014/06/which-paper-doll-is-this.html

WHICH PAPER DOLL is this? I've posted this photo at my other blog, but thought that ephemera collectors, especially those who collect paper dolls would enjoy seeing it. What makes this snapshot unusual is that the little girl is holding a paper doll. It's pretty common to find photos of children with dolls, but not paper dolls. I'm sure some eagle eyed reader who collects paper dolls will be able to figure out which doll it is. Click on image to see it larger. Click on image to see it larger. Collecting ...

Tattered and Lost EPHEMERA: Estey Organ Co. ADVERTISING PAPER DOLLS

http://tatteredandlostephemera.blogspot.com/2012/01/estey-organ-co-advertising-paper-dolls.html

Estey Organ Co. ADVERTISING PAPER DOLLS. These two dolls advertised the Estey Organ Company. I imagine they were printed around 1900, give or take 5 years either direction. These same dolls were also used by the McLaughlin Coffee Company and others. That would be an interesting item to collect; all of the dolls from the different manufacturers. Sadly there's never any artist information given about these old advertising paper dolls. To see other dolls in the series that Estey sold. Click here. Your dolls...

Tattered and Lost: Traveling with Charlie: Charlie's CHRISTMAS 1983

http://tatteredandlosttravelingwithcharlie.blogspot.com/2013/12/charlies-christmas-1983.html

It's been 30 years since this photo was taken. I hope Charlie had many more Christmas's to come. Click on image to see it larger. December 28, 2013 at 5:06 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). ABOUT TRAVELING WITH CHARLIE. A few years ago I was given a large box of photos that contained many snapshots of a man named Charlie. The photos were taken, I believe, by his wife. They span the early to late 1980s. I know nothing about Charlie other than he is from Texas. Oh, someone is now sitting in the backs...

Tattered and Lost: Traveling with Charlie: He came into town with CHANGE IN HIS POCKET

http://tatteredandlosttravelingwithcharlie.blogspot.com/2014/05/he-came-into-town-with-change-in-his.html

He came into town with CHANGE IN HIS POCKET. Charlie was in Vegas in March, 1984. He is proudly standing, according to what's written on the back, at the Frontier Motel. Was Charlie a gambler? Doesn't seem the type. Of course we'll never know because as usual Charlie is once again simply standing his ground. Click on image to see it larger. June 15, 2014 at 12:24 PM. Have we seen Charlie smoking a pipe before? Who does that anymore? June 15, 2014 at 8:10 PM. June 15, 2014 at 8:11 PM. A few years ago I wa...

Vintage Postcard Gallery: June 2012

http://gallery.vintagepostcardstore.net/2012_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 29, 2012. Margate Holiday Makers by Sunbeam Photo Ltd. I happened upon these vintage sepia real photo postcards. On a market stall on a recent trip back to the UK. Snapped by one of the hundreds of seaside photographers. Working between the wars for the prolific Sunbeam Photo Ltd. In the British seaside resort of Margate. In Kent, these are wonderfully spontaneous shots of ordinary families as they stroll along the promenade in Cliftonville dressed up in their Sunday best. The postcard above...

Vintage Postcard Gallery: March 2013

http://gallery.vintagepostcardstore.net/2013_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 1, 2013. Arnold House Hotel, Brighton - 1960s. The Southern Aspect, Arnold House Hotel, Brighton. I'm always thrilled when I come across a good story behind a vintage postcard. Sadly, on some occasions, these mementos of times past depict charming buildings which have been long since demolished, and serve as a pictorial record of our lost architectural heritage. Situated on Montpelier Terrace in Brighton. The postcard, which is in pristine, uncirculated condition, belonged to my grandfather...

Vintage Postcard Gallery: December 2012

http://gallery.vintagepostcardstore.net/2012_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 31, 2012. Italian Lucky 13 Horseshoe Postcard. With 2013 very nearly upon us I thought this Italian vintage postcard. Would be an excellent choice to celebrate the New Year. Published by a company indicated only by the simple initials T.E.L. printed on the reverse with no further markings, this uncirculated card was probably issued during the 1960s. Or Gnomes) also seem to appear on New Year's Eve. Cards with alarming regularity! Posted by Deborah Swain. Friday, December 21, 2012. Overla...

Vintage Postcard Gallery: Happy as a pig in clover! Bonne Année!

http://gallery.vintagepostcardstore.net/2014/01/happy-as-pig-in-clover-bonne-annee.html

Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Happy as a pig in clover! Trick photography and photo-montages were all the rage in the early years of the last century and a stock feature during the Golden Age of postcard production. This charming New Year Greetings. The postcard may carry the French greeting “Bonne Année”, but was in fact issued in 1904 by Neue Photographische Gesellschaft. 8221; images such as this postcard, NPG's own trade name for a type of glossy hand-coloured real photo postcard. Tattered and Lost: Traveling with Charlie: ON THE ROAD with Charlie

http://tatteredandlosttravelingwithcharlie.blogspot.com/2014/05/on-road-with-charlie.html

ON THE ROAD with Charlie. I feel really bad about leaving Charlie standing out on this dirt road for so long. Hopefully he made some friends in the small town of Purdon, Texas. Where this shot was taken. With a population of only around 133 I'm guessing he knows everyone by name now. Click on image to see it larger. Sorry about this Charlie. We're back on the road again. June 15, 2014 at 12:10 PM. Where have you been? Hibernating and waiting for the flowers to bloom I guess. June 15, 2014 at 8:07 PM.

Tattered and Lost: Traveling with Charlie: Sitting ON THE EDGE

http://tatteredandlosttravelingwithcharlie.blogspot.com/2014/01/sitting-on-edge.html

Sitting ON THE EDGE. Is Charlie coming or going? Did he say, "Quick, take the picture" and then get up to leave? Or did he then settle back into the chair having been caught by his photographer wife before he had a chance to get comfortable. Charlie always looks comfortable whether standing or sitting. And this is not the first time he's been in this chair. Click on image to see it larger. January 27, 2014 at 2:23 PM. May 13, 2014 at 8:08 AM. Traveling with Charlie what a kick! Tattered & Timeless

Candy Cane decor continued - a light fixture? We converted an old t obacco drying basket into a light fixture. By suspending it upside down over a chandelier. We have beautiful edison bulbs in it that give off a very mellow glow. I was chewing on a large candy cane while making the candy cane wreath and then a light went off.haha I started draping the large candy canes over the wire basket. I love the look- added just the right amount of Red colored fun to the dining room. Saturday, December 13, 2014.
