http://fasttimesofamiddleschoolmathteacher.blogspot.com/2014/03/edexpo-2014.html
Monday, March 17, 2014. I had the amazing opportunity to attend the 2014 education expo in Dallas Texas over the weekend of March 8th. I was asked to attend as a "teacher trendsetter" and rank my top 10 favorite products at the expo. I have so many products to talk about but I thought you might enjoy a good laugh first. The night before I decided to take a taxi to the train and hope on the blue line to get to O'hare. I finally got inside of the correct terminal and checked into the correct airline. A...

Fast Times of a Middle School Math Teacher: June 2014
http://fasttimesofamiddleschoolmathteacher.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 2, 2014. Today was SOOOO much fun! My students took turns running their games and playing other students' games. The other 7th grade math teachers sent groups of 5 students over to test our games. I gave each student a stamp card which was their "payment" to play the games (usually one stamp). This was helpful for visiting students because they went back to class when their stamps were used. Two pairs of students did maze games where the dice decided your path. We also had the lollipop pull!

Fast Times of a Middle School Math Teacher: May 2014
http://fasttimesofamiddleschoolmathteacher.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 6, 2014. We are wrapping up our 3-dimensional unit which has become one of my favorite units of the year. One reason it is my favorite is because we summarize each unit on paper plates creating a octahedron by the end of the book. This is the second time I have done octahedrons, you can read last year's post HERE. The plates explained the following concepts:. Area formulas for triangles, circles and trapezoids. Surface area of a rectangular prism. Volume of a rectangular prism. Subscribe to:...

Fast Times of a Middle School Math Teacher: October 2012
http://fasttimesofamiddleschoolmathteacher.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 21, 2012. Parent conferences were held last week and I have been relaxing/recovering from the two exhausting days. Our parent conferences are held from 4:45-8 two nights in a row (Wed &Thurs). We only have 5 minutes to share student progress so I made a packet of students work consisting of homework quizzes. Unit test and a student reflection. I created the student assessment at the last minute to have my students reflect on how they work in groups and independently (homework). A fellow m...

Fast Times of a Middle School Math Teacher: Scale Up Picture Class Project
http://fasttimesofamiddleschoolmathteacher.blogspot.com/2014/02/scale-up-picture-class-project.html
Monday, February 10, 2014. Scale Up Picture Class Project. By far I get the most emails about the candy wrapper project. Instead of candy wrappers we did a quick class project of scaling up a picture in pieces. I got this idea from our math coach (thanks Kelly! Who had great success with it in the past. He sent black and white pictures to use in groups or whole class. I decided to have the students enlarge one picture as a class. Check out the farmers mouth for an example of a student who CLEARLY did not...

Brad and Caitlin: A Loving God.
http://cksjourney.blogspot.com/2013/02/a-loving-god.html
A look into the Morris madness! Tuesday, February 26, 2013. One of the most unloving things God could do would be to allow you to live in sin and operate under the illusion that you’re still close to Him." -Pastor Steven Furtick. The truth is, we live in a sinful world. Even people we expect to be the most uplifting will hurt you. People can cut so deep you feel like you will never recover. Not only do people hurt me, I am guilty of hurting people as well. Everyone has hurt someone else's...Pastor Steven...

Brad and Caitlin: June 2013
http://cksjourney.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
A look into the Morris madness! Friday, June 21, 2013. WARNING: If you don't like nasty bug bites don't look! Just a few days after the bite. After one day of antibiotics. A few days in, it started to ulcerate. Then it turned very blue. Eventually it healed and formed a scab. Isn't that WEIRD and GROSS? SO What does any decent teacher do? Make it a teachable moment. After EOGs, I decided to dedicate a day to dangerous insects of NC. There are some NASTY caterpillars around here guys! Is that a joke?
