Modularised courses: The teacher becomes the student | Teaching in the wild

https://teachinginthewild.wordpress.com/2016/08/16/modularised-courses-the-teacher-becomes-the-student

Teaching in the wild. Connected learning in higher education. Modularised courses: The teacher becomes the student. August 16, 2016. Module 1 – researching convict ancestors – 7 weeks – no fees. Assessment – weekly quizzes and one major assignment. So, given all these negatives, what were the positives? Module 2 – writing family history – 7 weeks – fee-paying. Assessment – weekly writing tasks, weekly peer feedback, 2 assignments. What has this experience taught me about online learning and teaching?

Teaching in the wild. Connected learning in higher education. December 16, 2015. In this post, I describe the design of a course (unit) that I’ve been teaching online for a number of years. It’s a good time for me to reflect on the course, as here in Australia the semester finished a few weeks ago, and I’m now considering the changes I’m going to make for the next iteration. Who are my students? What is my approach? Because the course is part of the teacher-librarianship program. The course also addresse...

Teaching in the wild. Connected learning in higher education. Mindfulness, attentiveness and learning online. December 12, 2015. This this week and the discussion by Kate Bowles. Way of being in the world. She critiques the situation where ‘both mindfulness and attentiveness, which are reflective practices, have become harnessed to an agenda of productive practices’. To address their anxiety, I use a number of strategies to create an environment where students can freely ask ‘dumb questions’. I have ...
