Wednesday, 30 March 2016. Hatching Chicken Eggs in the Classroom - Tips for a Successful Hatch. Do you teach life cycles? Are you thinking about taking your unit one step further and bringing it to life (literally)? In my last Five for Friday post. When I first became interested in hatching eggs in my classroom, I didn't know that automatic egg turners even existed. Sunday, 13 December 2015. Five for Friday: More Christmas Fun! I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching. For Five for Friday. To share more of the Christmas fun going on in my classroom this week. Speaking of Christmas trees, I finally put a topper on our classroom tree. It was looking a little plain at the top and I found this sparkly little bow topper at a store earlier this week. I think it definitely completes the look! I found this adorable free elf craft. On TPT from Mrs. Ricca's Kindergarten.

Teaching in the Tropics: If We're Honest... A Non-Teaching Related Post
http://www.teachinginthetropics.com/2016/08/if-were-honest-non-teaching-related-post.html
Sunday, 7 August 2016. If We're Honest. A Non-Teaching Related Post. It's been a LONG time since I've blogged on here. After my last post, I took a hiatus from blogging. That wasn't really the plan, but the final term of the school year was so crazy I just didn't have the time. I also used that time to rearrange my priorities, which is something I felt God calling me to do for a long time. Not just know about. Him How do we get to know someone? Right now, my back to school to do list seems like it's a mi...

Monday, August 17, 2015. Life as a teacher abroad certainly comes with its fair share of challenges. The one I've been facing for three years is teaching counting the local money without any. So what's a teacher to do? I thought about photocopies and then modge-podging onto those glass gems. I'm still tempted. Maybe. Here's what I did instead brought to you by 4th Grade Frolics. I used Sculpey clay in silver. Next you just need to take your clay and roll it out to your desired thickness. I made t...I wou...

WILD About First Grade!: Open House
http://mtompkins-wildaboutfirstgrade.blogspot.com/2015/06/open-house.html
Monday, June 8, 2015. My class decided they wanted to learn about the rain forest. We came back from Spring Break and the madness began. The kids were so excited and eager to learn all about this wonderful habitat. Each rain forest book I read, ended with applause by my class. Their excitement carried over into each activity we did. I got excited when they got excited, which made for an interesting 5 weeks. Here are some pictures from that night-. This was the view from the door of my room looking in.

Zero, My Hero! This math unit is definitely one of my favorites to teach. We are at that point in the year where it all clicks in math! Our firsties are recognizing the correlation with addition and subtraction and they have a stronger conceptual understanding of place value. and more importantly the significance of my favorite number ZEROOOOOO. * He's my hero. Are aligned to K-2 CCSS standards. I plan to also use them over the summer for tutoring. :). Well if not, you need to get yours hands on a few of...

Real Life in First Grade. My Word Wall Doesn't Look Like the Others- And That's Okay. Is a "must have" in any elementary school classroom. Although they vary in color and style, it's safe to say I've seen one displayed in every primary classroom I've visited. My classroom is no exception. Yup That's my word wall. I know what you're thinking. You are wondering- Why is it so small? Where are the letters of the alphabet? Why are some of the words out of alphabetical order? With so many word cards, it's impo...

Friday, July 17, 2015. July 17, 2015}. It's been too long since I've done a Five for Friday post! I think mainly due to the fact that I've been up to nothing interesting this summer besides grad school, struggling hard at the gym, and napping like it's my job ;). Tis the season to spend all my money at Target! Wait, I think that's true all of the time. Regardless, everyone has been sharing their Target dollar spot hauls and I thought I'd post a picture of mine! LOVE the sum puzzle game! I also found the ...

Teaching in the Valley
Teaching in the Valley. Tuesday, October 1, 2013. It's October My favorite month of the year! Fall foods, fall weather, Halloween, pumpkins, apples, leaves changing - I love it all. Bummer that none of it really happens in Arizona. And let's be honest, drinking apple cider and munching on pumpkin muffins is not the same when it's still in the upper 90s. Plus it's kind of hard for leaves to change colors when I mostly see palm trees and cacti around. Loving: That Fall Break is so so so close! Needing: A m...
