Teaching Teens in the 21st

Tuesday, August 11, 2015. This year, I realized that I will need to tone it down a bit with my classroom, as I was exhausted just unpacking boxes! My husband and dad were so awesome, because they helped empty out the storage unit we had unnecessarily rented for the summer, and were able to load in my room in just a few hours! To compare and contrast, feel free to check out my classroom reveal from last year, featuring all of my classrooms through the years here. I changed up my reading nook this year, an...

Teaching Teens in the 21st: June 2015

http://www.teachingteensinthe21st.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

TPT Seller Challenge: Dare to Dream! This week the TpT Challenge. Was all about why we joined TpT in the first place. I've been working on this post all week, but this was a surprisingly hectic week with our whole house being torn up for new carpeting, painting the nursery, and a few other things! Here is my reasoning for why I do TpT, and why I blog at all, actually! Andit usually results in a better product that I can use in my own classroom the next time I teach it! Why do you blog? The "other" sections of the Writer's Notebook. First- I caved and bought labels for ALL of my students to put in their notebooks. Not only because I'm controlling, but because it's helpful for them to be organized. In fact, they recognized that this will help them become more organized, and make it easier to find sections in their notebooks. Am I the only one who gets super excited when I see organized tabs? Oh, and notice their "Master AAAWWUBBIS Hunter" stickers? I did the same as I silent read to model.

Teaching Teens in the 21st: Open House!

http://www.teachingteensinthe21st.com/2013/08/open-house.html

Open House/Meet the Teacher night was a huge success! Well, for me at least. I can't speak for the parents, but it seemed positive! I just wanted to post really quickly about what I did, and link up to some of the forms I created for Open House. With middle school, I had to have four different presentations, and we only had 8 minutes this year, so it was go, go, go right away! You can download my sign in sheet and the Involve-Mint sign at the end of this post :). Here's my presentation up and ready to go!

Teaching Teens in the 21st: Classroom Management Forms

http://www.teachingteensinthe21st.com/2015/06/classroom-management-forms.html

Yesterday I posted my new Classroom Management Forms pack. Which contains all of the forms I use in my classroom to keep things running smoothly and organized. The newest item in that pack is the While You Were Out cover and table, which I decided to have bound in a spiral at Office Depot last night. It was ready to pick up this morning, and I was so excited to go and get it! I chose to have the front cover printed in color and laminated, which was an extra $1.50. 2116, plus 25% off, so $15.87 total!

My Beef with the ISN. WellI've hit a crossroads. I LOVE my ISN, and it's been absolutely amazing for keeping students organized in the classroom, but lately I feel like we are just putting in worksheets.something that could be easily done in a binder, or in a workbook. I would love. I glued it all down on accident! I messed up, I need another copy! The whole period turned into gluing in some complex foldable instead of doing the lesson. What's a crafty heart to do? Google forms are one of my favorite, underused apps in Google Apps for Education. They are so easy to program, and look amazing. My students were always impressed when I told them I created the form just for them, whether they were taking a quiz, compiling their research, or just collecting silly data, like favorite scent in our Scentsy warmer. 171; Older Posts.

Teacher, believer, scholar, crafter, tech nerd, family girl, lover of laughter. 183; Posted by Lizabeth Hoppe. How many times do teachers tell students to study? Or have parent conferences that include comments such as "if s/he would just study more to learn the content." The truth is, from my experience, many students don't really know how to study. But, of course, they need to learn content more deeply than what they hear or do in a lesson, so practice is vitally important. What is this Kahoot! To crea...
