Technically a Diplomat: August 2014
http://www.technicallyadiplomat.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
The life and times of a Foreign Service Information Management Specialist. Friday, August 29, 2014. Chennai Holidays: Ganesh Chaturthi. One of the perks of working overseas for the government is that we get the day off for some (or all) of the host country's holidays! Today's holiday is for the festival Ganesh Chaturthi. The clay statues shown in the pictures above were around 10 rupees. Pretty crazy. Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Internet Around the World. Jeff over at RambleOn. Was recently talking about...
Technically a Diplomat: June 2013
http://www.technicallyadiplomat.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
The life and times of a Foreign Service Information Management Specialist. Tuesday, June 25, 2013. I was contact today with a notification that I will be contacted in the future for an Oral Assessment. I was mildly confused why I was receiving an e-mail to prepare me to receive an e-mail (maybe the hiring folks at the Foreign Service are fans of Space Balls? But I’ll take it! Of course it gave no indication of time frame, so I’m back to waiting. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Added to the Register.
Technically a Diplomat: Actually a Diplomat, Part 2: Bastille Day!
http://www.technicallyadiplomat.com/2015/07/actually-diplomat-part-2-bastille-day.html
The life and times of a Foreign Service Information Management Specialist. Monday, July 13, 2015. Actually a Diplomat, Part 2: Bastille Day! Happy (early) Bastille day! As previously mentioned, nobody wants to work on a holiday.) Tonight was the French representational event, celebrating Bastille Day. I was rather surprised to receive an invitation, but was grateful to accept. Let's be honest, who can say no to an evening of French food and wine! November 19, 2015 at 10:49 PM. Happy Fourth of July! The o...
Technically a Diplomat: January 2014
http://www.technicallyadiplomat.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
The life and times of a Foreign Service Information Management Specialist. Thursday, January 30, 2014. I guess I better figure it out soon, February 10th is approaching fast. Monday, January 27, 2014. An Offer You Cant Refine. To determine starting pay. As a strong believer in always negotiating (or attempting to) starting salary, it was weird to get an offer that I knew I had no influence to change. The IMS position. Wednesday, January 22, 2014. The Foreign Service will pay to store any household goods,...

And, Here.We.Go!: A day in the life...
http://dcpeterson.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-day-in-life.html
And, Here.We.Go! Monday, June 22, 2015. A day in the life. One of the great things about jet lag is being wide awake when nobody else is. One of the great things about being on R&R is that there isn't anything terribly pressing to do. Put those 2 things together and, voila, I have time to write on my blog. Keegan in her natural habitat and Rowen being Rowen. Rowen's music class did rock group performances. Amazing how quickly we adapt to our surroundings. Rowen's award winning pigeon performance. Nurse a...
Ramble On - Foreign Service Specialist: Stockholm Apartment
http://rambleonfss.blogspot.com/2014/08/our-apartment.html
Ramble On - Foreign Service Specialist. An Information Management Specialist (IMS) rambling on around the world. Thursday, August 28, 2014. Here's the most important room for friends and family. The little spare bedroom is ready for guests! Apparently many of the local hotels are similarly sized. The price is definitely much better for this room. :-) Yes, the full size bed did fit. We also brought our airbeds so those can be put down elsewhere in the apartment if needed. There's only one power plug in th...
Ramble On - Foreign Service Specialist: June 2015

Ramble On - Foreign Service Specialist. An Information Management Specialist (IMS) rambling on around the world. Saturday, June 27, 2015. First FS Post - 1 Year Later. I think I prefer getting an email over flag day. I'll get a private moment to digest the information instead of having it shared with everyone like some game show. "Come on down! Oh, have we! We've discovered you can do some really cool things in Europe over an extended weekend if you just go. This map was blank a year ago:. The official l...
And, Here.We.Go!: Time flies when you're having fun
http://dcpeterson.blogspot.com/2014/10/time-flies-when-you-having-fun.html
And, Here.We.Go! Tuesday, October 14, 2014. Time flies when youre having fun. Chameleon caught at Ebbet's Field, a park for the US Embassy. I imagine him screaming "FREEDOM! Of course there's always the bus, which is only 100-200 CFA to ride but, besides being strongly encouraged not to, there's always the fear of them tipping over or having your wallet go missing. I have to admit it looks like fun! The food markets are amazing. More fresh food than I've ever seen in one place. It doesn't get much freshe...
Ramble On - Foreign Service Specialist: Stockholm Zombie Walk
http://rambleonfss.blogspot.com/2015/08/stockholm-zombie-walk.html
Ramble On - Foreign Service Specialist. An Information Management Specialist (IMS) rambling on around the world. Saturday, August 15, 2015. Once a year in Stockholm there are zombies. They go for a walk through the city. We're having a little nice weather for a few weeks so it was actually sunny and 73F. Summer appears to be unusually short this year with a bit more umbrellas and jackets needed compared to our first summer here. But I digress so here are the zombies. Location: Stockholm, Sweden. It's a W...
kirbsand: Hunting Sunrise at Galunggung
http://kirbsand.blogspot.com/2014/12/hunting-sunrise-at-galunggung.html
Sunday, December 28, 2014. Hunting Sunrise at Galunggung. Even though we were late, it was still a majestic sight. The sun had been up for about an hour and the mist hanging over the land and creeping around the hills was beautiful to see. You could see for miles. We hiked up the 614 steps and the view at the top was also stunning. It took my breath away. The mountain is really a volcano which erupted last in 1982. Oregon State has a very nice page about that event here. We returned to Jakarta around 9PM...
kirbsand: Dell employs some really nice people and some real jerks
http://kirbsand.blogspot.com/2015/02/dell-employs-some-really-nice-people.html
Friday, February 27, 2015. Dell employs some really nice people and some real jerks. This is supposed to be helpful? He told me that Dell no longer offered restore media on USB for this model laptop. Really? How much trouble is it to stick it all on a usb stick and charge me a lot of money (which I was willing to pay) for that? Again Which I shall write about another time because it's done downloading now. October 27, 2015 at 11:58 PM. June 12, 2016 at 11:39 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Well T...

http://kirbsand.blogspot.com/2015/05/we-went-to-bandung-last-weekend.html
Saturday, May 2, 2015. We went to Bandung last weekend. Left Jakarta on Friday afternoon and came back on Sunday. It was a fun adventure that I recommend to anybody with a moderate sense of adventure. We did not shop. I tried to book train tickets (6:15PM train) online on Tuesday evening from the comfort of my lazy chair at the Kerata-api. And then my glasses fogged up too. We finished our Bandung tour with a cultural performance by Udjo school. The trip was very pleasant for me. My travel partners w...
And, Here.We.Go!: February 2014
http://dcpeterson.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
And, Here.We.Go! Friday, February 28, 2014. And now the fun can really begin! Tuesday was Flag Day and I apologize to everyone that I didn't post sooner. Life was understandably crazy following the ceremony. Only Keegan was able to come with us to the ceremony so there was a mad dash afterward to pick up Rowen and tell her our great news and then rush off to the after party with David's classmates. And the winner is. DAKAR, SENEGAL! Women selling fresh fish (among other things) at one of the local markets.
And, Here.We.Go!: May 2014
http://dcpeterson.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
And, Here.We.Go! Monday, May 19, 2014. Where are YOU from? Where are you from? So with all this in mind we decided to make Nevada our "home". My mom said this makes us Las Vegans or Vegans for short. It was a crazy adventure in which we learned a couple of things. We had our ticket and a seat within 5 minutes and were sitting in front of one of their 37 windows by 8:10am, taking an eye test and getting our pictures taken. We were out of there in under an hour. It was unbelievable :-D. Where are YOU from?

I’ve seen more posts about how people are happy to have 2016 over than any year I’ve seen before. The election was a horrendous mess. Yet for me personally, 2016 has been the most redemptive year to date. So roc...
