We packed up the family and joined the Foreign Service in 2011. Currently in: Guangzhou, China! Friday, April 24, 2015. Update on life in Guangzhou. Chinese NY decorations were awesome. I used to think about my blog all the time and compose blog posts in my head. Now weeks go by without my even thinking of it. The B Files: Thailand with kids (Part Three)- Dumnoen Saduak Floating Market

http://thebfilesblog.blogspot.com/2015/02/thailand-part-three-dumnoen-saduak.html

We packed up the family and joined the Foreign Service in 2011. Currently in: Guangzhou, China! Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Thailand with kids (Part Three)- Dumnoen Saduak Floating Market. What to call her? When I was last in Thailand 13 years ago, I was so disappointed that I did not have the chance to visit a floating market. I find floating markets and villages so interesting! The food and produce/fruit people were mostly in boats, some moving, some not. I plan to visit a different market every time...

We packed up the family and joined the Foreign Service in 2011. Currently in: Guangzhou, China! Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Granola and yogurt- nothing better! Thought I would share my favorite breakfast today. I never used to like granola- it was too chewy and hard. That was until I tried my mother in law's granola! Now I can't live without it in my cupboard, I make it as gifts, and everyone always asks for the recipe! So here it is! Here's my cute granola asst. 1/2 cup olive oil. 1 cup sweetened coconut.

We packed up the family and joined the Foreign Service in 2011. Currently in: Guangzhou, China! Friday, June 27, 2014. Lesson 2: I don't feel like I'm on vacation until I'm at a vacation spot of some sort. We made the decision to let the kids finish school, and I'm glad we did, but I'll keep this in mind for next time. But it was great to spend three weeks living with my mom and pop. And we tried to take advantage of some great weather! This year, in addition to family time, I'm enjoying hour long bike r...

We packed up the family and joined the Foreign Service in 2011. Currently in: Guangzhou, China! Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Some tips about starting to learn Chinese. I keep thinking about a few tips that might help anyone starting Chinese at FSI soon, and I'd like to share. A certain blogger/former Chinese student. I remembered it. But I was so overwhelmed that I didn't listen. Don't be stupid like me.). Means I (I looked for the upside down w). Flashcards heavily in the beginning, but as the characters k...

Oh...the possibilities!: May 2010

http://burkettblogs.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 31, 2010. The waiting process for the foreign service is somewhat like a scary movie. The music is playing louder and louder, you grip the armrests so hard your fingers are turning white, as you wait.wait.wait for the next step. Like waiting for the pretty screaming girl to be killed by the bad guy. Those of us who want to work for the FS, that's who. Posted by Steph B. Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Not what we expected. We arrived at the San Tan Mtn Park and looked at the large map of trails and pi...

So You Want To Be A Foreign Service Officer. Sunday, March 27, 2011. Now that everyone in the February Cohort has submitted our personal narratives it is the long wait until late May or so to find out if we continue in the process or if it is the end of the road. So You Want To Be A Foreign Service Officer: OA Scores

http://wannabefso.blogspot.com/2011/07/oa-scores.html

So You Want To Be A Foreign Service Officer. Friday, July 15, 2011. My FOIA request for my OA scores showed up today, and boy was I surprised. The one thing you learn going through this is you really have no idea how things are evaluated. I really thought I did well on the GE, OK on the SI, and I knew that I didn't pass the CM, but didn't know if I blew it. While I didn't pass the CM, the hypotheticals did me in. I actually thought I did OK on them so need to go back to the drawing board. After not passi...

Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Oh Ashley, I love you, I love you, I do". But we wouldn't have such a great story I suppose. but that being said, it will be interesting to see how my personal lack of enamor for the "elegant Mr. Wilkes" plays into my stitch selections. He certainly can't stand out like Scarlet does. It's during antebellum after all, we have to let the ladies steal the show!
