Ads in my way. A fieldwork blog on advertising in London's public space. For about two years (from February 2009 to January 2011), as I travelled my way around the commercialised public space of London, I came across ads that caught my eye for one reason or another, some seducing and some appalling, but all of them somehow telling of the slice of space/time I was living in. A photographic log of those ads and a few talking points is what you'll find collected in the screens of 'Ads in my way'.

The other night, someone had a random dream. 8220;Had to email you because I dreamt you’d been fired and now worked at Currys. But I knew it was a dream because I was sleeping in the store – I had a full double bed in the middle of the TV section and you were helping me choose which I should buy (despite the fact I clearly lived there! July 8, 2011. Today I tracked c...

Little Bit in London: October 2010
http://littlebitinlondon.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Little Bit in London. Meshing three cultures through food, traditions and thoughts. When I first took my fiance to the US, I indulged in all the foods I was missing and that were classically- or perhaps classically associated as- 'American.' We went to almost every fast food restaurant, bought Krispy Kremes by the dozen (they did originate near to my mom's house) and generally ate food that we do not otherwise eat, not only because it is not available in London. I would have taken more pictures of food, ...

Little Bit in London: Summer quiche and pie crust

Little Bit in London. Meshing three cultures through food, traditions and thoughts. Summer quiche and pie crust. Another great thing about quiche is I have the chance to make pie crust, one of my most favorite things to make. I know that many people have trouble with shortcrust dough as it is persnickety and often fickle in temperament. Of cold water. When the dough forms a ball, sprinkle flour on a counter top or board and on the dough ball as well to begin rolling the pie crust. Then I pressed the doug...

From East Berlin to East London (with a few diversions)…. Skip to primary content. September 20, 2011. There’ll be enough racing hearts in that. Catching up on recent releases is the only thing I like about flying. It’s a bit of a guilty to pleasure to watch rom-coms in the air. Neutral territory. The second movie was the new Woody Allen,. The truth this film clouded was, well, that living in Paris is not like American movies make it out to be. Fact:. Live in the present and enjoy the moment. We neve...

From East Berlin to East London (with a few diversions)…. Skip to primary content. July 13, 2011. The other day, a few of us went to watch Terrence Malick’s. The Tree of Life. The film divided audiences, especially Peaches Geldof. She kept going to the loo every ten minutes. Look Who’s Talking. The beginning of something new, quite literally. There were newborn babies in. The Tree of Life. Apart from Buc-ee’s, a giant highway restaurant, he mentioned the fact that Malick, who is from nearby Waco, f...

From East Berlin to East London (with a few diversions)…. Skip to primary content. September 6, 2011. West meets East in Singapore’s China Town. So I just spent a week in Singapore. I knew what many know about the place: chewing gum is illegal, the streets are clean, there is a huge expat community. And it’s the home of the Singapore Sling. All that was true, but I found out more. Now I know one thing for certain: Singapore is a strange place. Like everywhere else then. One such Chinese-born taxi dri...

Little Bit in London: January 2011

Little Bit in London. Meshing three cultures through food, traditions and thoughts. Potato pizza is carb. Heaven, something I crave in the colder months. The inspiration for this pizza came from a London pizza place in Covent. That trial took about 6 months, but still, it's the effort that counts! As it was a weeknight when I made the pizza, I was in a rush to cook and eat my carbohydrate-laden dinner after. Just wait until you hear about eating Penguins! And olive oil and toss them around until coated.

Little Bit in London: Potato Cheese Casserole
http://littlebitinlondon.blogspot.com/2011/06/potato-cheese-casserole.html
Little Bit in London. Meshing three cultures through food, traditions and thoughts. Casseroles are definitely American. The idea of putting lots of items together in one dish and cooking in the oven is not new (hello lasagne and macaroni tou fourno. But the presence of certain ingredients, usually canned soup or processed foods, seems to firmly set a dish into the casserole genre. Or at least, that's how it's done in the States. As with any casserole, it's pretty easy to make though there are a lot of in...
