Having not grown up in a church that celebrated Lent, I need to remind myself to do so. It is a good daily reminder of the passing of time. The cycles of the church. This year I found a video series.posted daily.under 5 minutes each. that I am really enjoying. A simple reading from the gospel of John. After a bit of searching I figured out it is read from the CEV .Contemporary English Version.which is refreshing. Http:/ www.24-7prayer.com/blog/1717. Labels: this and that. The Greatest Love of All. gracenotes: The Greatest Love of All
http://graciered.blogspot.com/2012/02/greatest-love-of-all.html
The Greatest Love of All. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law? 37 And He said to him, “ ‘ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. ’. 38 This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘ You shall love your neighbor as yourself. ’. 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”. Through a Glass, Darkly: Sheep-Shearing at White Oak Farm
http://mkatchris.blogspot.com/2015/05/sheep-shearing-at-white-oak-farm.html
Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Sheep-Shearing at White Oak Farm. Between Anna's graduation and Philip's wedding, we're spending a few days visiting my family in West Virginia. My parents and my three brothers and their families all live in the state. My brother Max and his wife Anne have owned a beautiful farm in the Greenbrier Valley. That's his ewe Oregon in the middle with her two lambs, both ewes also. Max and daughter Hannah herded the three into the barn. They separated the babies from Oregon. He trims Ore...

Musings by the Lake: June 2016
http://gloriaden.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html
Musings by the Lake. Monday, June 27, 2016. Every fall I pulled into this parking lot, excited for a new year to start. That excitement would continue through the seasons all the way to the end of each school year. School Parking lot in the fall. The flowering cherry trees in the spring in front of the school. Early summer on the playground the last weeks of school. Last week of school. And so as I said in my Thank You, I will wear this with gratitude and joy because of what it represents, that I was par...

Musings by the Lake. Saturday, February 27, 2016. A Change in the Air. Fortunately, as the week progressed each day got a little warmer giving me a chance to get outside to work in the garden a little. And boy, does my garden need some TLC. As you can see, I haven't been out here much in the past few months and it sure shows. There is much to be done. And buds are popping out on the trees. This is my neighbor's pussy willow. Don't you think the catkins look like little fuzzy caterpillars? In the ordinary...

Musings by the Lake. Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Mother's Day by the River. My mother loved our camping trips and so for Mother's Day last weekend we took her for a drive out to the woods for an afternoon by the river. At 83, she isn't as spry as she once was but with a little help she was able to make it down to the riverbank. Today it's a nature preserve filled with hiking trails and campgrounds. I love wandering through the moss covered trees and along paths lined with ferns. Labels: Around the Northwest.

Musings by the Lake. Sunday, January 24, 2016. California Here We Come - Elephant Seals and Hearst Castle, Maybe? Grant, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard to name a few. I had my camera charged and ready for a day spent roaming the beautiful rooms and gardens of the magnificent place Hearst called, La Cuesta Encantada, the "Enchanted Hill". However, things didn't quite work out the way we had planned. So I had the happy notion that I would go back to the car and change the camera lens which I proceeded to d...

Musings by the Lake: Making Holiday Memories
http://gloriaden.blogspot.com/2016/12/making-holiday-memories.html
Musings by the Lake. Saturday, December 17, 2016. This year was cold and clear when we headed to the Christmas Tree Farm but we were ready to go. Even Grandma comes along although truthfully I really worry about her falling on the uneven ground. The youngest always has to pick his own personal favorite. The whole crew gathered around their choice for one of the trees. We picked two trees this year. One for our house and one for the oldest one's new home. Oldest has made his choice. And here is our s.

Musings by the Lake. Sunday, July 31, 2016. Misadventures of a Pack Rat - Day 4. With just snatches of time here and there everything looks a bit disorganized, but I know that with each item that ends up in a bag or box progress is being made. Unfortunately, letting go of some things takes a little more time than just putting them into a bag and sending them out the door. Sometimes it feels like everything I own has a story attached to it. Aren't these stacking boxes cute? My house had more of a cottage ...
