Food First. Everything Else Second. Tuesday, September 23, 2008. A Sad Day in the World of Chocolate. Hey Food Fans,. Sorry for the gap in postings.  However, today seemed as good a time to write as any. So not so long ago, I waxed poetic about the wonders of desserts and, namely, chocolate.  Today, one of chocolate's most seminal figures passed away. No, not any of the Hersheys. No, not Lady Godiva (whoever the heck that is). No, not Russell Stover. Today, Robert Steinberg. Yet Robert is a classic examp...

The Cook's Cabinet: NYC: BBQ Central? You're joking, right?

http://thecookscabinet.blogspot.com/2008/07/nyc-bbq-central-youre-joking-right.html

Food First. Everything Else Second. Sunday, July 13, 2008. You're joking, right? So picture this. You're a clasically trained french chef. You work for one of the city's elite restauranteurs. Your food entertains a clientele of Manhattan power players. For most foodies, this is the life. And then, oddly enough, your next career move takes you away from NYC and into the great American southwest. What now? High-class Manhattan dining is unlikely to find a hold on the frontier. The Cook's Cabinet: NYC Delicatessens: Sandwiches like no other.

http://thecookscabinet.blogspot.com/2008/07/nyc-delicatessens-sandwiches-like-no.html

Food First. Everything Else Second. Sunday, July 13, 2008. NYC Delicatessens: Sandwiches like no other. One of NYC's unique culinary contributions is the overstuffed deli sandwich. With famed spots like the Carnegie Deli, the Stage Deli, and several other ones to name, NYC has a rich tradition with this classic dish. But if you can't get to NYC, I make a reuben using pretty much the same stuff. Here's my version:. Two slices long rye bread. 1 Cup sliced Pastrami or corned beef. 2 slices swiss cheese.

Food First. Everything Else Second. Wednesday, April 30, 2008. Searching for Michael Mina? You might not have to go far. As a fan of food, it's a special treat to see an accomplished chef in person. So much so that at a recent event in Monterey featuring chefs such as Thomas Keller, food enthusiasts and professionals laid down four-digit entry fees just to get in. Http:/ www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi? This article appeared in today's San Francisco Chronicle. Yet as the Mina empire spreads worldw...

The Cook's Blog

Friday, April 07, 2006. This is a recipe that I have meant to share for quite some time. It was passed on by our friend, Katie (Cannon) Miller and is absolutely delicious. 6 pounds pork tenderloin. 3 cups art apples. 1 cup chopped celery. 1 bottle (16 oz) prepared BBQ sauce. 2 cups brown sugar. I have never cooked a 6-lb. tenderloin. Here are the proportions I generally use for four generous servings:. 1 1/2 to 2 cups apples. 1/2 bottle BBQ sauce. 1 cup brown sugar. Para; 8:18 PM. 1/2 lb cubed tofu.

The Cook's Club

Friday, July 30, 2010. I earnestly submit to you the idea that nobody really needs one of those pre. Determined knife sets with wooden storage blocks thrown in to the deal. If you have one, now's. So, unless you're heading off to Le Cordon Bleu. You might as well save yourselves. Having 3 or 4 pretty great knives and then maybe some utility- ish. Extras is more than adequate for people who don't host parties in their home in The Hamptons. With something molded by an artisan. So, without further adieu:.

Monday, January 16, 2012. Vanilla Banana Caramel Flans. I recently bought this book Small Batch Baking. And i"m already in love with it. Thanks to Debby for such a wonderful book. I've already tried most of the recipes from the book with lovely results. This book serves for just 1 or 2 people, just small portions of baked goods. Have you ever tried to measure one teaspoon of an egg or even halve an egg? Makes 2 flans ; Serves 2. 1/2 cup plus 3 tablespoons sugar. 1 very ripe banana (i used a small one.
