The daily screenwriter: May 2009

http://thedailyscreenwriter.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Because Peer pressure works! Wednesday, May 20, 2009. I didn't write today but I consider my writing karma good as I spent two hours sorting out the mess my writing space had become. like an archaeologist I dug through three layers of projects/notes, brushed and labelled them, so to speak. I think a certain level of mess is inevitable with writing but things had really got out of hand. Am going to work on containing the mess rather than letting it breed, from now on. http://thedailyscreenwriter.blogspot.com/2009/05/day-two-page-eight.html

Because Peer pressure works! Monday, May 11, 2009. Day two. Page eight. Technically, page 9 (halfway down) - but I'm giving myself that halfpage up my sleeve for slow days. Working this way is working so far - I'm kind of outlining as I go a little bit (though I do have a rough outline and know where I'm going to end up, know what the last shot of the movie is). So far, actually kind of fun. Posted by the daily screenwriter. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Other blogs I like.

Because Peer pressure works! Sunday, May 10, 2009. It is begun. Page four. I have now begun my digfeature! Entitled 'The Secret' (might as well share the title. Working title, incidentally, it will definitely change). Four and a half pages today. So technically page five. Plan is to write four pages a day, six days a week. Though documentary will have to take precedence now and then. Posted by the daily screenwriter. Good luck rays being transmitted from West Auckland. May 11, 2009 at 11:07 AM. I find yo...

Writing about Writing: April 2009

http://seanmolloy.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Exploring screenwriting and what it means to me. Thursday, April 23, 2009. Watchmen, The Room, and the Shared Experience. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing two films recently that I enjoyed very much, for wildly different reasons. What I want to focus on in this post is the audience response to these films: in one case, unusually divergent, in the other case, eerily similar. Has led to a lot of debate amongst people I know and fellow bloggers. Which brings me to the other extreme. The four of us. Who saw i...

Exploring screenwriting and what it means to me. Saturday, May 16, 2009. Why I Write: To Grow Myself. I’ve been realising recently that I really love growing myself, or helping others to grow. What do I mean by ‘growing myself’? I think it’s about deepening my understanding so I change the way I relate to others, my environment, and even myself. I love this process of progressively understanding something at a deeper level. For instance, I’m really enjoying working on The Gap. Wednesday, May 13, 2009.

Writing about Writing: Who do I base my characters on?

http://seanmolloy.blogspot.com/2010/05/who-do-i-base-my-characters-on.html

Exploring screenwriting and what it means to me. Monday, May 31, 2010. Who do I base my characters on? So, writers group tomorrow night. The topic for this meeting (suggested by my lovely wife - thanks hon! Who do you base your characters on? A deliberately provocative question I know, because maybe you don't base your characters on anyone. Well that's fine, but I sure do. I've figured out four different approaches that I take to creating characters. 1 I base them on other people. 2 I base them on me.

Writing about Writing: Lots of things a good writer needs

http://seanmolloy.blogspot.com/2010/11/lots-of-things-good-writer-needs.html

Exploring screenwriting and what it means to me. Monday, November 22, 2010. Lots of things a good writer needs. Picking up from my last post, I asked my writing group to come up with the things a good writer needs. Thanks to Jackie, Malcolm, Warren, Steven, Jade, Steve, Ben, and Matt for the suggestions below (hope I haven't forgotten anyone! In no particular order, a good writer needs:. A desire for continuous improvement. Something to write on. The ability to adapt. Honest and reliable feedback. Fellow...

I've passed on the role of co-ordinator of the group, but I have set the discussion topic for tomorrow night, which is:. 8220;What have you learned about screenwriting lately? Writing about Writing: March 2009

http://seanmolloy.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Exploring screenwriting and what it means to me. Saturday, March 21, 2009. Why I Write: To Share. I’ve realised that one reason I write is to share. As a concept, sharing goes a long way towards explaining why I write. (I’m not sure I need to explain why I write, but long-term readers of this blog will know that’s one of my interests! Sharing to me suggests that my script/film is an act of approaching the audience and saying:. I’m naturally uncomfortable holding the floor like that. I don't wan...I prefe...

Exploring screenwriting and what it means to me. Saturday, June 13, 2009. Given this blog has been around for a year now (Happy Birthday blog! I thought it was time to look back and see if I’d learnt anything. Looking back over my previous posts I can see that:. I’m more interested in questions than answers. The posts I find most interesting are the ones that explore inner conflicts. Rather than the posts that try to provide the definitive answer to a problem. I suffer from perfectionism. Writing about Writing: August 2009

Exploring screenwriting and what it means to me. Sunday, August 30, 2009. Why I Write: To Surprise. This post is about what I learnt about myself after getting through my Dip yesterday. But first I want to talk about what I used to do when I was nine*. It would be too big a surprise for any of my nine year-old classmates to even fathom. And so it proved - they all gave up on my maze. And having lost my audience, I gave up too.). I can see now that this wish to surprise has been a key driver in my creativ...

Writing about Writing: August 2008

http://seanmolloy.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Exploring screenwriting and what it means to me. Monday, August 25, 2008. Albion - the once and future script? Is a story of a modern-day King Arthur. Set in small-town New Zealand, it's the story of a nice guy and common man transformed into a visionary leader. The nice guy (Eric) starts behaving as if he is King Arthur reincarnated, and the various characters around him either believe him or try to persuade him of his insanity. In some ways,. Lars and the Real Girl. Has always seemed a simple idea to me.
