Wings Above The World: September 2013
http://wingsabovetheworld.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Wings Above The World. We hear wingbeats above us. We feel a heartbeat within us. One and the same. Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Birds From The Last Few Days. One of my favorite birds from the Eastern Sierra (they are all over, but I grew to love them there), the Warbling Vireo. The Vireo takes off. A rare island migrant, a Green-tailed Towhee. This bird stayed for at least a week. A Western Flycatcher noms a beetle in the Coast Guard Tree. Same bird, extra curious. One of the few dozen Black Turnstones.

My adventures in the natural world. Birding Resources–Sample Page. June in the Daks, part 2. Birding the Rio Grande Valley–Finally! The Wonders of Santa Cruz Island. October 8, 2013. But, this one Life Bird seemed small potatoes compared to a pelagic trip, an all-day birding trip at sea, promising oodles of sea birds we would never see on land. Fate being what it is, the pelagic trip out of Santa Barbara was cancelled due to lack of participation (hey, Santa Barbara birders! Impassively watched too, comf...

Tico Birder: Sobre el autor
http://spadebill.blogspot.com/p/sobre-david.html

Burly Bird: For all the lady birds...
http://burlybird.blogspot.com/2012/07/for-all-lady-birds.html
Bird Stickers: www.burlybird.com. July 31, 2012. For all the lady birds. I've been getting really good looks at female birds lately. I think many of the drabber ladies get passed over or missed altogether because they're often secreted away on nests and not singing garishly from exposed perches like their testosterone-filled counterparts. A female PABU came in and we were fairly excited, but admittedly sort of let down that it wasn't a male in all his breeding plumage splendor. Egads. This female White-w...

Burly Bird: Florida AVICATION Part II: The Glades...
http://burlybird.blogspot.com/2011/12/florida-avication-part-ii-glades.html
Bird Stickers: www.burlybird.com. December 21, 2011. Florida AVICATION Part II: The Glades. Little Blue Heron, 3-16-11. We drove to Florida City after flying into Miami, and checked into the local Travelodge. This place was clean, comfy, and friendly - and after redeeming rewards points that I had accumulated, only cost us something like 15 bucks a night for three nights. Damn, it feels good to be a thrifty birder. We awoke the first morning ready to EXPERIENCE. 20 species later, we were nearing the Park...

The Feather and the Flower: January 2010
http://featherflower.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
The Feather and the Flower. I arise every morning torn between the desire to save the world and the desire to savor the world. It makes it hard to plan the day." - E. B. White. Friday, January 29, 2010. I'm Going Bowling [Fun and Games]. I should clarify that I don't mean the ancient sport of kings. No, my casual use of "bowling" is the more active but less known world of competitive birding, in this case a challenge known as the Superbowl of Birding. So, who am I spending the weekend with? I know there ...

Conservation Conversations: Aiming to Transform
http://conservationconversations.blogspot.com/2011/10/aiming-to-transform.html
Reflections on environmental education, conservation, wildlife issues, and birds; primarily of Southwest Missouri. Sunday, October 9, 2011. The Power of Myth. Throughout human history, cultures have used rites of passage to signify the importance of life transitions. Our own society still recognizes and celebrates transitions with weddings, baby showers, anniversaries, and funerals, but little is communicated about the role of these events in the human maturation process. Graduation exercises have become...
