Before you think I’ve gone all Sooty and Sweep here’s actually another blog about birds… I know, amazing! It looked like atmospheric landscapes and industry would be the only photos I took. I decided to head back to the car, give Minnie some food and water and have a quick drink myself. On the way I bumped into Rob Lambert, newly arrived and looking chirpy. Poole Birds and Moths: March 2013
http://mjlbirder.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Poole Birds and Moths. Sunday, 24 March 2013. A quick post to display some of the photos from yesterday's ringing session (and one from the 17th Feb). In total an amazing 73 Chiffchaff were caught in the PC World drain, Poole, of which 68 were new (incl tristis), 4 were re-trapped from previous visits and 1 was a control . This is what we certainly believe to be a tristis. This next bird was caught on the 17th Feb and was a retrap having originally been trapped here in 2009. Could it be a tristis? 9th Au...

Birding Poole Harbour & Beyond: October 2014
http://birdingpooleharbourandbeyond.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
31 Oct 14 - You Can Never Have Enough Yellow-browed Warblers At Studland. A quick initial view as it emerged to the pishing. It quickly got bored and turned away. Yellow-browed Warbler: A final flash of its wingbars as it waved goodbye and it was gone. I had a quick look around to try and find the other one. No joy, but a tight flock of 3 Firecrests all quietly calling to each other was nice. Then I too had to head off to more mundane tasks for the rest of the day. Martin Cade makes some interesting poin...

28 June 15 - Birding The Pirate Beach. After a great boat trip watching the Brown Fish Owl. There was time for a quick look around the edges of the Green Canyon reservoir. This is one of the Eastern subspecies known as Steppe Buzzard. We stopped briefly at the bridge just below the dam where there were a group of Red-rumped Swallows flying around. Looking towards the dam. The river just below the dam. Not the best of photos, but it is a Photo Tick. This was one of about ten boats just off the beach.
Bradders Birding Blog: December 2013

Tuesday, 31 December 2013. Rarity distribution in pictures: 2013, and before. This is far from a typical end-of-year review (but there are enough of those out there already). Instead, I’ve spent an hour or two playing around with some new data visualisation tools in the latest version of Excel, and my birding records from the year. If a picture speaks a thousand words, then this is going to be pretty long! First up: where have I seen anything good this year? The chart below tells the story…. There’...

The Phillies got off to a 4-1 start, only losing a game in which they batted something like 1-11 with RISP (that’s runners in scoring position for all you bandwagon jumpers.) During this little streak of theirs, they have double digit hits in each one of their games, something they haven’t done since 1926. Posted 5 years ago. As crazy as it m...

Life, one libation at a time….
Life, one libation at a time…. Alcohol probably won’t fix your problems, but its worth a shot…. Drink of the week: Overachiever. In spirit of excessive effort, I stopped by the Wooden Robot Brewery in the South End this week, for a citrusy and unlike its male equivalent, drinkable IPA. The “Overachiever” is brewed with pale and caramel malts, oats, Simcoe and Centennial Hops and the house ale yeast. This brew is perfect paired with pretty much anything… Continue reading →. Just what it says. Kendall Yards via bicycle. May 17, 2015. I feel like I am standing at the end of a dock, waiting to jump in to the water, not knowing the depths or if I will sink or swim. I am torn by my feelings of obligation and responsibility and the fear that my life will end before I have ever even lived. Wine will cover some of these conflicting emotions, but in the end, I have to decide. I was so close to just quitting my job today, if only they knew. I hope I don’t wait too long. May 4, 2015.
