Being Dylan James: Slapsgiving

http://www.thedylanjames.blogspot.com/2009/11/slapsgiving.html

Lots of junk in a tiny space. Thursday, November 26, 2009. On the one day a year we, as Americans, give thanks for the blessings around us I normally spend it being upset with my family's tradition. My dad, as a pastor of a small church in a small town, holds a Thanksgiving feast at the church every year. For once, I know what it's like to have a Thanksgiving that gives you warm fuzzies. This year, I'm thankful for a family that loves me, friends that are there for me, and a life with promise.

Being Dylan James: Peter Pan Leaves Neverland

http://www.thedylanjames.blogspot.com/2009/11/peter-pan-leaves-neverland.html

Lots of junk in a tiny space. Sunday, November 22, 2009. Peter Pan Leaves Neverland. After about a month and a half I decided to stop living with my parents and moved into a house with 5 guys in South Bend. I got a job at a restaurant as a server and spent my free time with my friends. I took my focus off school and worked too much. Then I decided I would go back to Indianapolis. About a week after I moved in, Allison and I broke up again. Everything had been going fine, but it was reaching that time...

Lots of junk in a tiny space. Sunday, March 29, 2009. Show Up Classic Pt. II. So this weekend was sprints and a hill climb in Bloomington. I didn't do well. I don't want to talk about it. I feel fat haha. But here's everyone that showed:. And then it happened:. Mom, I know you're proud. Friday, March 20, 2009. Thursday, March 19, 2009. Bike Race, Chicago, Movie and Swayze. Last Friday Indianpolis had our first Alley Cat race of 2009! I know, it says 2008.it was a typo. She's fully grown, too! Anyway....

Being Dylan James: Monster Mash & more

http://www.thedylanjames.blogspot.com/2009/10/monster-mash-more.html

Lots of junk in a tiny space. Wednesday, October 21, 2009. Monster Mash and more. Monster Mash is coming up! I'm so pumped for this "race". I got off work for it and the after party is going to be sick. Ahhhh so excited! In other news, I got asked yesterday if I would like to teach a spin class on weekday mornings. That would be such an awesome job. I'm sure it would help my speed on my bike tremendously. And I'd get a free gym membership which means I would get free massages! Hmm hope I can do it.

Random ramblings on any given day. Monday, February 21, 2011. Reflections on the Emerald Isle, part 4 Rock of Cashel. Oh, my. Working full time, teaching two graduate level classes, recovering from surgery and planning a wedding are kickin' my tushie. I see that there might be time to breathe come the last week of July. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming! We woke up on our first morning in Ireland and set out for the Rock of Cashel. Thank you, Sacred Destinations). That story the next time.

Random ramblings on any given day. Tuesday, May 19, 2009. No Time to Breathe. Hmmm Why haven't I been posting? To say that life has been non-stop for the last several weeks, let me give you a run-down of my Sunday. We went to a Saturday service last August, so no church this morning. Just good old fashion worship of the heart). 5:30 am - The dog wakes me up to go outside. 5:35 am - I realize that if I want to get my painting project done today (and it must. 7:00 am - Get in shower. We have a graduate!

Humble Offerings: Reflections on the Emerald Isle, part 6 On the road to Galway

http://humbleofferings-jdm.blogspot.com/2011/03/reflections-on-emerald-isle-part-6-on.html

Random ramblings on any given day. Monday, March 21, 2011. Reflections on the Emerald Isle, part 6 On the road to Galway. We got up bright and early the night after our time at McGann's Pub and headed toward Galway. First stop was Doolin Pier. The sun was brightly shining and waves were crashing. I don't know why the sun and waves were so unexpected to me, but the surprise of it made the stop all more lovely. In memory of those who have lost their lives at the Cliffs of Moher". Random ramblings on any given day. Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Joy In My Arms (revisited). Audrey at Barking Mad. Is sponsoring a giveaway for a $300 gift card to Target. She is asking us to write about joy and what brings us joy. I guess I'm cheating a bit by revisiting this post from Sept. 2, 2008. I hope it counts. I don't know why, but I've lost my sense of joy. It'll come back. I hope it's soon.). Where do you feel your joy? 1 Intense and especially ecstatic or exultant happiness. Links to this post.

Random ramblings on any given day. Thursday, July 30, 2009. Is asking readers to write a post about our favorite charity/humanitarian organization/non profit group and why it's so near and dear to our hearts. I have been giving this some thought and several ideas have easily come to the forefront. My favorites would be Horizon Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, and any organization that works to feed people because there are just so many hungry people in this world, literally and figuratively. Saturday, n...

Random ramblings on any given day. Sunday, January 30, 2011. Reflections on the Emerald Isle, part 3 Kilkenny. This is it. This was the first one. It was goooood. Our first night, Jim had breakfast for dinner. It was goooood. My first meal in Ireland. I was tired, cold and wet. This was gooooood. This would be Patrick Joseph, who proffered a wedding proposal to me, hinting that he would have to kill Jim first. He was like a waif from a Dickens novel, including hat, long wool coat, a limp and a cane.

Random ramblings on any given day. Tuesday, August 18, 2009. My Girl Got A Job! This roller coast called "Life" can really s-u-c-k (I hate that word) sometimes. The prospects for teaching positions in our area of Indiana have been few to none this. Two hours later, I get this text- -"I got a job! She gets a real contract, gets on the ladder for seniority and will be one of the first in line next year for any positions that come open. So when does she start? Today was her first day. Random ramblings on any given day. Tuesday, January 26, 2010. 20 C M B 10. A few Sunday nights ago, a group of youth, along with their group leaders and Jim and me, set out to bless the homes of some of our church members. When we arrived at their homes en masse, we would explain what we were doing, write on their door with chalk (with permission, of course), and leave them with the following letter of explanation and a piece of chalk:. The letters and numbers. Their meaning and significance. What was be...

The Dylan Harper website. Old data. New data. Borrowed data. Blue data. Kaggles are good for you. Earlier this week I finished my first Kaggle. Competition. Kaggle is (primarily) a platform for holding data science competitions. If somebody has a pile of data, and would like some predictive modeling done with it, they can work with Kaggle to unleash a hoard of bored smart people on the problem. The most famous data competition is probably the Netflix Prize. R, almost exclusively. Kaggle leaderboards usua...

Friday, December 21, 2012. Okay, since several of my posts have dealt with the end of the world in one form or another, it got me thinking: why does the phrase "The End of the World" exist? I mean, I used it as the title of a song in my musical. Itself - as if it were also an event, or measurement of time - is very strange to me. The realization of death is a powerful thing. There's tons to read on it, like here: http:/ plato.stanford.edu/entries/death/. Or, more abstractly, here:. As the Witch said in.
