The Vèlo-Vegan: September 2008

http://www.theexistentialbeatnik.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, September 27, 2008. Finally. I was finally able to do one of these. And let me tell you, the wait was worth it. Around 4:45pm on friday afternoon, there was a slowly growing number of cyclists gathering at what I will refer to as the "hipster trees", just west of the OSU student union. The gaunt, bearded figures mostly spent their time milling about, riding each other's bikes/longboards, and gawking at the few brave hippies deeply engaged in slacklining. Another interesting turn (bike pun?

Wednesday, October 22, 2008. Lucy's got a new pair of shoes'. Also, the worst toe-stubbing in the world. Rejoice, dear reader, for I have a tale for your enjoyment. But first, I'm afraid that you must mourn- mourn for the loss of my battery charger, for without it's electric nourishment, my camera has died. So it has come to this. A tale without visual aid, but a tale nonetheless. So let us halt the story here, so that we may have a chance to rest, and meditate on what we have heard today. Picture fo...

The Vèlo-Vegan: Vegan Recipe of the Day: A hastily thrown together curry recipe!

http://www.theexistentialbeatnik.blogspot.com/2009/01/vegan-recipe-of-day-hastily-thrown.html

Tuesday, January 27, 2009. Vegan Recipe of the Day: A hastily thrown together curry recipe! Because the roads are icy and I've been riding the bus! Yeah, I know, I've let you all down. I'm not the ultra badass biker I make myself out to be. The thing is, though, that I don't want to die- which would surely happen if Lucy and I ventured out onto ice-slick streets. So I've decided to do some cooking! And to present to you, my first, fully original, vegan recipe of the day! Hastily Thrown Together Curry.

The Existential Beatnik: February 2009

Monday, February 16, 2009. The problem with time travel. It's never as easy as it seems. Alright.test, test, 3, 2, 1, go. I've only got a few minutes before the next, um, event, so I'm going to have to make this quick. You're listening to this, I'm assuming, because you're interested in my work. That's good. In fact, there is soon to be an opening in my field, one which I currently occupy. More on that later. And one last thin-. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Existential Beatnik: R.O.V.M - Barbecue Seitan with Potatoes and Experimental Salad

Wednesday, March 23, 2011. ROVM - Barbecue Seitan with Potatoes and Experimental Salad. In which I get a new knife and really need to show it off. In today's installment of Regular Ordinary Vegan Mealtime, I'll be taking you though the events of my day, through the course of a meal (with dessert, of course), and round and round the inside of my thought processes. For dinner tonight, we'll be serving delicious (though slightly chewy) barbecue seitan. Easy peasy. But then, this happened. From vegweb). ...

The Existential Beatnik: December 2008

Tuesday, December 30, 2008. Check out the sidebar, I've added a new twitter widget (sounds dirty). Links to this post. A nice atheistic post. To lighten your god-fearing day. I was in the park today- I'll soon write a post on my sister blog. So I sat there, considering the grass, and the trees, and how the sunlig.whoa.did it again. I considered. those things. Arguments from design. Though I must say, my favorite example of this: that the grass was put on Earth by god so that we could have something s...

Sunday, January 30, 2011. Regular Ordinary Vegan Mealtime! In which I create some swedish cuisine. Hold on. Before you go any further, watch this video. Needless to say, I too was impressed. I enjoyed the spectacle so much that I decided to craft a vegan version of a meal which is originally anything but. Here's how it goes:. 2/3 lbs. Macaroni. Vegan Sliced Deli "Ham". Speaking of which, the mac is probably still boiling at this point. Let the batch simmer down, there's no draining here, we're cookin...

Tuesday, January 27, 2009. An open letter to the armed services. Also a closed letter, I sent it in just now. And the reply I sent back. I'll have no part in this. It's terrible that you're exploiting the financial situations of college students in a bid to enlist them into service. Also, how many people have you really tricked by the claim that this email is somehow "UNCLASSIFIED"? I mean, really, the people who fall for the "OMG, I'm needed for a secret mission! Uniformed men, handing leaflets in malls.

The Existential Beatnik: October 2008

http://existentialbeatnik2.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 25, 2008. I was out to witness a crime. Past the gray brick walls. Past the sleeping homeless. I was sipping a latte. Through the "bad" part of town. In the ill-lit walks. In the store-front sector. In the very middle. I was walking down an alley. To where my bike waited,. Chained to a pipe. Screwed to a meter. Stuck in the ground. And I left for home. The Existential Beatnik: Ordinary Vegan Meal Time: Drunken Riz avec Pain Brulée

http://existentialbeatnik2.blogspot.com/2011/03/ordinary-vegan-meal-time-drunken-riz.html

Friday, March 4, 2011. Ordinary Vegan Meal Time: Drunken Riz avec Pain Brulée. At least, that's what the online translator called it. In order to properly prepare this dish you're going to need a few things:. Beer - at least a six-pack, doesn't need to be fancy, a decent domestic will do. Wine - in case you run out of beer. Rice - 1 cup. TVP - Textured Vegetable Protein, it usually comes in dried flakes, 1/2 cup. Spices - whatever you happen to have on hand. Bread - one slice. Onion - about 1/2 cup.

The Existential Beatnik: Short Fiction: He Stood in the Shadows

Saturday, March 5, 2011. Short Fiction: He Stood in the Shadows. In which I write extemporaneously. On the other side. The smells made his mouth water, his heartbeat race; they made his breaths deep and intentional. He savored these moments; there were all he had to look forward to besides sleeping, which he also enjoyed. What would he think? It would destroy him. Would it be cruel to release him from his prison, to show him the world which had been locked from him? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Existential Addict | One choice at a time…

One choice at a time…. February 6, 2015 2 Comments. Anytime we experience a major change in our lives, we go through an adjustment period where we try to establish some sense of normalcy. Whether it is a positive change (like the birth of a child) or a negative one (like the death of a loved one), our lives are forever altered, and we have to re-establish how we move through the world. No big deal, right? This was last September. I gave myself until Christmas to be back to normal. It’s a drawn-out proces...

Existential Art

Every time the drawer opens, light appears. New apples come in, or old apples are taken away. Eventually, they deduce that the slit of light is what creates new apples. They live in the dark. Simone de Beauvoir – “She came to stay” was a good read. Ernest Hemingway – “Write one true sentence”, great advice from a great writer. I greatly admire the efficieny and readability of his style. Once past that first year I was already preparing to move. But to where? We just booked a flight back to Paris in June, short term.
