Andrew Jensen's personal musing on Role Playing Games. Monday, July 8, 2013. Where are you going, where have you been. Whew, long absence. Where have I been for 4 months? Well, work got crazy, and my gaming attention has been taken up by several games that aren't Apocalithic. I have ADHD, whaddaya want from me? Sites are described by their Aspects, Complexity track, Resources, and Fate point pool. The core aspects are the site's Biome. Which roughly describes the landscape and ecosystem, the Landmark.

Hunter Gatherer Games: Apocalithic Playtest #1
http://huntergatherergames.blogspot.com/2013/03/apocalithic-playtest-1.html
Andrew Jensen's personal musing on Role Playing Games. Thursday, March 14, 2013. It's been nearly a month since I last penned anything here. Between work, Illness, and a new video game, I haven't had much time to write. And what time I have spent writing has been putting together Apocalithic's skill list, which has turned out to be a harder proposition than I first thought. But in this last week, I had my first playtest of the game. So that's progress. And Aquatic Adaption,. Players report they found the...

Hunter Gatherer Games: February 2013
http://huntergatherergames.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Andrew Jensen's personal musing on Role Playing Games. Tuesday, February 19, 2013. More on Passive Skill Use. So my last post ended with briefly mentioning the idea that characters could be considered to be using their skills at their base rating at all times. I knew there was some potential there, but that it wasn't a finished idea. The problem is that while for skills like notice it makes perfect sense, for other skills it's weird. How do you passively use craft? Ex: Notice, Empathy). Characters with t...

Hunter Gatherer Games: The Contest Fractal: A framing device.
http://huntergatherergames.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-contest-fractal-framing-device.html
Andrew Jensen's personal musing on Role Playing Games. Wednesday, January 30, 2013. The Contest Fractal: A framing device. This is the Contest Fractal: each exchange in the contest can be resolved with either a challenge, a contest, or a conflict, depending on it's nature. It's a way of using a contest to frame not just a scene, but a whole story. However, if they succeed, they'll tally a victory, and hopefully succeed in the next two scenes as well. Myrkwell: The Resurrected Gamer. You are viewing my sporadic attempts to document my personal journey back into the world of RPG, Miniatures and board gaming! Sunday, March 6, 2011. A Blog Post Sneaks in Between Game Sessions! Since my last post I’ve had the pleasure of attending TempleCon 2011. In Rhode Island. I also accomplished one of my new years resolutions and ran two events at TempleCon. I ran a Deathwatch. Session and a Gamma World. The system is very crunchy and even after 5 or 6 game sessions ...

Cheaper by the couple | Unroll My Dice
https://radaghast.wordpress.com/2009/01/12/cheaper-by-the-couple
Storehouse for RPG-related ideas. Cheaper by the couple. One of the games I’m actively designing now has a lot to do with duality, so I might use this idea there. But then again, maybe not, so I’m gonna write it out here anyway. This entry was posted on Monday, January 12th, 2009 at 10:48:12 and is filed under character creation. Abilities as exceptions | Unroll My Dice
https://radaghast.wordpress.com/2008/12/22/abilities-as-exceptions
Storehouse for RPG-related ideas. In D&D3.x there was an unbreakable rule that ‘specific beats generic’ (the only discussions were about what is more specific than the other, but I’m gonna leave it at that). If you generalise that rule, you end up with a mighty fine game rule. Character abilities are exceptions from the rules. I’m planning to use this meta-rule for both designing and explaining one of the games I’m working on right now (yes, that fantasy heartbreaker. Seems cool so far. From your own site.
