http://www.thehermesproject.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Al Gore didn't invent the Interweb. Wednesday, 18 April 2012. Google / Oracle patent case underway. One of the biggest patent cases to come to court so far got underway yesterday with the commencement of Oracle's action against in Google. In which they claim that Google's Android mobile operating system. Infringes their Java programming language. Well at least it became theirs when they acquired Sun Microsystems. Nature of the language. The case stems from a lawsuit Oracle. When Larry met Larry? Demands ...

The Hermes Project: Value of Groupon drops below Google offer price
http://www.thehermesproject.com/2012/06/value-of-groupon-drops-below-google.html
Al Gore didn't invent the Interweb. Sunday, 17 June 2012. Value of Groupon drops below Google offer price. Remember Google's USD$6bn offer for group buying site Groupon back in 2010? Which everyone believed (including me) that Groupon. Was crazy to turn down. Well Groupon is now worse less than Google offered. Thanks to their staff cashing in at the end of the six month 'lockup' period after their IPO listing. Where they were not allowed to sell off what stock they had in the business. Sites I read a lot.

TalkTalk pushes low pricing agenda. Value of Groupon drops below Google offer price.
The Hermes Project: Silliest use of a QR code yet?
http://www.thehermesproject.com/2012/03/silliest-use-of-qr-code-yet.html
Al Gore didn't invent the Interweb. Friday, 9 March 2012. Silliest use of a QR code yet? QR codes, or Quick Response Codes,. Are popping up all over the place, even if they are only seemingly used by luvvies in the likes of marketing and advertising who are keen to show off the status symbols that are their smartphones. Whilst I have seen some clever uses of them, there are also some very silly ones - and this one. Must be the worst I've seen so far:. Posterous communicates Twitter takeover. Facebook bor...

Online help two.zero. Observations on customer help and support experience. Help is at hand…. This post is a first, actually it’s a second, but I put that down to the perils of a beginner. I somehow deleted my first attempt at a blog on the move. I have been using an iPhone for about two weeks now and it has without doubt opened up for me a whole new world of possibilities within online help and customer service. 03/08/2009 at 7:13 pm. Posted in online help. Tagged with customer service. Interesting idea...

Online help two.zero. Observations on customer help and support experience. Leave a comment ». Some random ‘uncut’ thoughts on Twitter. Get over it. You’ll only know if it’s a fad when it’s not here anymore. Is a fad linked to time? Could be a long wait. Many people talk about the need for having a story to tell. I’m not sure what that means or on what level a story takes place? For me, my story is that I help people ( @guyatcarphone. What does this mean? What does this mean? What does it look like?
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution: DCMS Minister fuses his first fibre for Cyberbarn
http://5tth.blogspot.com/2011/11/dcms-minister-fuses-his-first-fibre-for.html
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution. Wednesday, 9 November 2011. DCMS Minister fuses his first fibre for Cyberbarn. The Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP today (yesterday for many of you! Cyberopened Cyberbarn by fusing a length of fibre which, in an ideal world, would have been wrapped around a laptop sporting a presentation about Cyberbarn as there was no way in his Olympic schedule to get him through our door in Warcop. Nothing ever quite happens as you expect. It's been a very long day - I have just got home...
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution: Why your community needs more than superfast
http://5tth.blogspot.com/2012/06/why-your-community-needs-more-than.html
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution. Monday, 25 June 2012. Why your community needs more than superfast. This blog post can be read at 5tth.blogspot.com. Rush hour chaos - traffic cams would be so simple to set up for public log in as well as monitoring the state of the roads by Highways Agency, police etc. Why are the cameras currently monitoring roads unavailable to the general public? Ah, news from the villages. Plenty of scope here to use fibre. Churches should be streaming christenings, fun...Motor...
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution: BT continues to spread FUD
http://5tth.blogspot.com/2013/03/bt-continues-to-spread-fud.html
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution. Monday, 11 March 2013. BT continues to spread FUD. Uncertainty and doubt (FUD) is a tactic used in sales, marketing, public relations, politics and propaganda. Some time ago, we were discussing what purpose BT's Vital Vision programme was a) intended to have and b) was having in actuality in changing the mindset of, in Vital Vision's own words, ".some of the UK’s most influential public sector leaders". This blog post can be read at 5tth.blogspot.com. After all, HR (...
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution: Cumbrian News & Numbers - and your county too
http://5tth.blogspot.com/2012/09/cumbrian-news-numbers-and-your-county.html
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution. Monday, 17 September 2012. Cumbrian News and Numbers - and your county too. As we enter another week where announcements will be made about counties 'fulfilling' their broadband procurements, I'm going to stick 5tth's head right above the parapet and expose some facts. This blog post can be read at 5tth.blogspot.com. As an example, from my own doorstep: Cumbria blame the BDUK framework etc for their decision. I note we are a pilot . there were Battle of Britain p...
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution: December 2013
http://5tth.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution. Thursday, 12 December 2013. Been a while - how is FTTH doing? I took a break, nothing wrong in that, eh? This blog post can be read at 5tth.blogspot.com. After all, visiting some 20 US based networks and hearing about many more, worldwide, sorta blew my mind. Well, it did and then didn't really, as I heard too much of the same old, same old. And the good stuff I am forbidden to talk about. So, never one to ignore those I respect, I have done as told. Year ago I was s...
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution: Wow, we are sooo far behind
http://5tth.blogspot.com/2012/06/wow-we-are-sooo-far-behind.html
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution. Sunday, 17 June 2012. Wow, we are sooo far behind. I went to the USA because I knew there were things happening in the States that the UK and EU needed to be aware of. What I had not realised was a) how little the information sharing is happening between States let alone US and the Rest of the World and b) how far ahead some networks are, especially rural community driven projects. And the winners? This blog post can be read at 5tth.blogspot.com. 17 June 2012 at 00:10.

Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution. Monday, 7 May 2012. Been here two weeks tomorrow and I think I have more to say than time to write, but here goes. This blog post can be read at 5tth.blogspot.com. This will be an Alphabet Soup Post and this is the intro. For the sake of future searches, I am going to give each letter its own post. If you remind me, at the end, I will put the whole lot into a book available on Lulu.com for you to buy to fund further mileage! Let me know if you fancy a punt. Image: th...
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution: Bye bye telcos
http://5tth.blogspot.com/2012/11/bye-bye-telcos.html
Fibre to the home UK - Fibrevolution. Tuesday, 27 November 2012. Last time here, I visited 16 States and met untold numbers of people who were building FTTh networks (mainly) against all odds. Incumbent odds. This time, the USA seems much more "with it". This blog post can be read at 5tth.blogspot.com. I really must get a job. This drifting around the planet looking at fibre and rural networks quite simply doesn't pay. Well, not in pounds sterling. Because all the evidence points to it being feasible....
