The Johnson's Repatriate

Introducing a New Beginning . I've been ruminating for some time. I loved this blog. I love to click through the old links and looking at our life in China. Remembering the places we visited, the emotions we felt. I wanted to keep blogging here, and hoped to capture our repatriation experience in the same space. But I had a hard time processing our repatriation process and writing about it in real time. So I let the old blog lie fallow. Until this hit me . It's time for a new space for our new time.

If you do it," my sister laughed over the phone, "you have to blog it.". She was laughing about Spring Project : Jen's Hen's). No really, you should document it.". The Accidental Homesteader (part one). Last fall, sort of by accident, I picked up a book at the library about homesteading. I was happy to have stumbled on this basic book that offered practical tips on ideas I had found more and more attractive after living in China.I feel that an unexpected part of our international experience has been ...

For the love of Roquette. Thanks to the wonders of the internet {shout out to google and Ben and the Pinterest team} I will never have to purchase another cookbook, nor eat another boring salad. One of our favorite salad mediums @ The Bungalow is roquette {arugula}, which has been surprisingly difficult to score in our little corner of the Midwest! We throw the lobed leaves on pizza and sandwiches, wilt it in pasta dishes, but mostly we eat it in salads. Using the recipe I found here:. And then tweaked s...

Looking Back : Olympical Moments from 2008. I didn't start keeping a blog until the Autumn of 2008. However, I had been writing short pieces on our China experiences and wrote one about our up close encounter with the Olympic Torch in July of 2008.}. People have asked if we are going to the Olympics, but it seems instead, that the Olympics are coming to us! Our blonde American girls. with great vigor waved their equally illegally copied Olympical flags which we had purchased under the cover of darkne...

The Johnson's Repatriate: Happy 11th to EHJ!

http://www.thejohnsonsinchina.blogspot.com/2013/01/happy-11th-to-ehj.html

Happy 11th to EHJ! Breakfast in Bed is our tradition. The brekkie was a little lack luster this year . Not even a fruit on the tray. But, it was her request . A bagel with cream cheese and a glass of eggnog. I simply look the other way when I read the ingredients list of the eggnog carton. It's laden with corn syrup, and doesn't expire until February. Shouldn't a milk product be slightly more perishable than that? But, it's her favorite beverage, and fun to be a little indulgent! A Little Sisterly Love.

Don't Look Down: September 2008

Friday, September 26, 2008. I've been rockin' a pair of Merrells for about three years now, and I have to say that they have taken a beating pretty well. Unfortunately, they farted out here recently. Honestly, I really wanted a new pair, but just can't bring myself to fork out the 100 bucks for 'em. So.I did some looking around and found a pair of Salomons. That have a similar look. $90 pair of shoes for 40 bucks.not a bad deal, eh? John Michael George Jr. Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Ately, Lucy has b...

Thursday, July 30, 2009. Hey, Hey everybody! This post is coming after a LLLOOOONNNNNGGGGG hiatus. The fam and I have been in Mississippi since the end of May and have been going from "can to can't" since. Now that I'm finally taking the time to write just a bit about our time at home, it's almost time to get back to beautiful Roach, MO (much prettier than it sounds.). At that about 3 or 4 kiddos interjected with, what was for me, a EUREKA! It was the very next week when my 9 year old neice came to me af...

Friday, January 30, 2009. Giving God A Name. So, this past Wednesday Jessi and I were sitting in a "Form and Meaning" class when we were given an assignment that completely caught me off guard. "Give God a name," our teacher said. What? Give God a name? For example, say you move into a new tribal location. Option 1: You can stick with the name "God," but what will they understand this word? What meaning will they ascribe to it? Would you misrepresent the nature of God by the words you choose? Four years ...

every day is an adventure: October 2011

http://whatsournextmove.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Every day is an adventure. New Delhi, Weather from Weather Underground. Saturday, October 22, 2011. I have been on a blog hiatus.no excuses. Laziness, lack of motivation and organization, and new schedules have been the name of the game this fall. As an apology, I am shamelessly using our adorable four year old. She has learned to sing "Eensy Weensy Spider" in Hindi at school. She loves to sing it (all the time) and is even happier if we record and watch it over and over. Links to this post.

Every day is an adventure. New Delhi, Weather from Weather Underground. Tuesday, August 14, 2012. I was not to open the latches by myself because she was afraid my little fingers would be hurt. Also, I don't think she really wanted me to know how to maneuver the "old-fashioned" clasps. It helped keep a little of the mystery. Beds and dressers, fireplaces, kitchen sinks, bathtubs, a toilet, lamps, bookshelves, even a grandfather clock. The joy was immense. The older daughter took careful time to take ...

Sunday, October 7, 2012. We had a nice Easter Holiday with a fun egg hunt and coloring eggs with friends. We do the activities that don't pertain to Christ on Saturday so we can focus on our Savior and what Easter means to us on the Sabbath. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves so I think we will plan to do it again next year! Later that evening, we had our friends the Werner's over to color eggs and eat Bunny Buns. Nothing too wild and crazy this year but I think everyone had an enjoyable day. Saturday M...
