It's what I do. Alaskan adventures: Part 3, Hallucinations on the glacier. The route was the stuff of dreams. Steep solid granite walls, separated. Linked together by narrows ribbons of ice. What we hoped to be 'easy' early pitches turned out to be hard, brittle steep ice, or thin ice and mixed like Tony on the Twin Runnels, above. The obvious rock feature above is 'The Prow' the crux of the first rock band. Of bringing such a strong rope gun as Tony to dispatch. Hard We are being made to work for this.

It's what I do. I have enjoyed plenty of snow around the festive period. Eoin and I went on a walk [trudge more like] in the Pentland Hills south of the city. It's mostly gone now and things are starting to feel a bit like Spring. there's hope for me! I am travelling to NZ next month to see my family and meet my new nephew, Kahu. Hopefully I'll catch the end of some actual Summer weather as well! A natural poser (Oct 2010). Kahu smiles (11 weeks). See you fellas real soon! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

It's what I do. I would cycle 220-odd miles. Have you ever seen 135 cyclists on the road at once? It's lycra-tastic I can tell you and I was fortunate enough to be one of the few women in this cycle challenge, organised by BAE systems in June. We embarked on a tour of the western islands of Scotland weaving in and out of Arran, Kintyre Penninsula, Bute, Islay and the mainland for 4 days. We had incredible luck with the weather and only one really bad patch of midges! To Arthritis Research UK.

It's what I do. Alaskan adventures: Part 4, A Dingy Glow. As keen as we were to jump straight on another big route, a storm forecast for a couple of days, and the occasional ‘cloud of death’ tempered our enthusiasm, whereas the blue skies and sunshine we kept getting did wonders for our tans. For acclimatisation. Well mostly just to shut me up) we went for a ski up the West Buttress route on. We also kept seeing streams of people heading up that way from basecamp. So we get back down to basecamp. Coming ...

It's what I do. Fun in the snow. After our week in the sun, luckily Edinburgh was still frozen and there was still lots of fun to be had. I got out into the hills several weekends in a row climbing. But what made this really special was when you could do it right in your backyard. Climbing on the crags above Edinburgh. I could see my house from the top! Although on the other side of the hill, you felt like you could be just anywhere. Just magic. Sunshine and steep rock bliss. Ginger Jo doing awesome.

It's what I do. B I G Birthday Month. June was my birthday MONTH. Yes, that's right folks - I used the excuse to celebrate as much as possible being alive for a significant amount of time. It started with a fabulous asian banquet laid on by my gorgeous flatmate, Sarah - thanks Sar! Pic courtesy of: Sarah Lambert. Pic courtesy of: Sarah Lambert. Then we had a 'summer garden party' with a 'beach' theme. It rained. Sarah, me and Handsome Dave. Trying to 'limbo' the slackline! Pic courtesy of: Kate Lindey.

It's what I do. One of the perks of working in a university is that there is a budget for paying for travel to conferences. One of the perks of being attached to one such employee is to accompany him to the exotic conference location and do interesting stuff in the sun while he's stuck inside listening to boring presentations! Hello five star beach resort hotel in Antalya. Yes, we took a picture of our room! Ruins on the coast at Side. The great preserved Amphitheatre at Aspendos. The Blue Mosque at Dusk.

It's what I do. Snapped on the cycle - Image by Bob Marshall. On 11th September I competed in a sprint triathlon run by the East Lothian Tri Club. It was staged in Haddington, a lovely village east of Edinburgh that happens to be quite hard to get to by public transport with a bunch of gear, including a bike. Not bad considering I hadn't trained enough and I was happy to simply finish. Eadaoin finished 8 mins ahead and we both agreed that it was a good thing to have done. Image by Bob Marshall.
