About – The Mossy Blogster
https://themossyblogster.wordpress.com/about
A glimpse into the world of moss, terrariums, aquascapeing, landscape design and exploring the natural world. My name is Marc, welcome to The Mossy Blogster. I am an Australian, currently residing in the beautiful harbour city of Sydney. Right now I am an apartment dweller and so having my own green space is hard to come by. So I have had to get creative. Here I will share those creations, some astonishingly successful and some not so. I am certainly no expert, maybe perhaps more an enthusiast. You are c...

How to Make Seed Balls. September 1, 2016. 1 cup Seed starting mix/ potting soil. 1 cup Crayola Air dry Clay. You can also use red art clay or potters clay. Available at an art supply store or garden center. If you can get your hands on some of powdered clay I have read it works better but in a pinch the Crayola stuff will work too. You can find it at the craft store. Make a Compost Bin out of Pallets. September 1, 2016. I wanted to buy a compost bin and saw some for sale at the Home Depot. They cost...

Suet Bird Feeders |
https://electricmoonbeam.com/2016/10/13/suet-bird-feeders
October 13, 2016. For this project you will need the following:. 1 cup peanut butter. Plastic cups, soap molds or muffin tins. Start by chopping up your suet into one inch or smaller chunks. Put them into a pot on the stove and set the temperature to medium. Let them melt. Open the windows and turn on the fan. It’s going to get stinky. Actually you may want to light some incense or a scented candle because it’s really stinky. You are melting cow fat. Pop them out of the mold and tie some string around it.
Pinecone Bird Feeders |

October 14, 2016. Here’s a quick and easy way to attract some birds to your garden this winter. An old classic that’s great to make with kids. If you have more time on hands and some random beef suet in the freezer you can make these. But if you don’t you can make these simple pine cone feeders with things you probably already have around the house:. You can easily use peanut butter instead of bacon grease. It would probably be less gross. Step one. Tie string around the pine cones. Vegan Potato Pancake&...

October 28, 2016. And Jan Dougherty method of cleaning. I reviewed both of their books earlier this year. You should definitely check them out if you have a chance. Here is the rundown on how I do my big quarterly house cleaning. It takes me about a week working a couple of hours everyday. I hope to get it things to the point where I can get it all done in a weekend. After the room is mostly empty I vacuum and dust the area where the walls meet the ceiling. Major dust and cobwebs! One room a day and I am...

Tomato Roses and Carrot Flowers. October 19, 2016. An easy way to take a basic dinner dish and make it fancy is to add some garnishes. It’s all about the presentation. I learned how to make vegetable flowers out of tomatoes and carrots in my Hospitality Foods class in grade 9.One of the few skills from high school I actually still use. For the tomato roses:. Take a small to medium sized tomato and slice off the stem and any leaves. Once it’s curled all the way prop the curled skin on the base. Address ne...

September 5, 2016. I started making some of my own cleaning supplies about a year ago. I haven’t bought Lysol or Windex in a very long time. Making your own cleaning supplies is fun, environmentally friendly, economical and easy! This is the recipe that I started using to wash my dishes but as you will read soon enough you can also use it for other household cleaning needs as well. 1 cup washing soda. What the heck is all this stuff? Recipe coming later this week! Mix the ingredients together and store i...

October 26, 2016. Have you ever heard of lasagna gardening? It has nothing to do with Italian food. It’s a way to prep garden beds by layering organic matter, it’s also known as sheet composting. The layers will “cook” and break down leaving you with rich garden soil. This method of gardening is easy. No digging, to tilling, no hard work at all really. Just gather your supplies and start layering. Step One: Create a perimeter. Step two: Layer newspaper on the grass and soak it with water. I used garbage ...

The Moss Family
Tuesday, June 16, 2009. The last couple of months have been a roller coaster of ups and downs. We (Aubrey and I) have been trying to raise money for our trip to Liberia, our house has been on the market forever it seems and there have been some bumps in the roads with both of my older kids. Through it all there have been days where I have really wanted to throw in the towel and wave my white flag. I feel like I was stuck in this downward. Wednesday, March 18, 2009. It has been forever. It has been foreve...

The Mossy Cottage
Monday, August 3, 2015. Garden Ups and Downs. Believe it or not, we are still alive! Life has been busy and hectic and full. We were hanging on anticipation as our tomato plant blossomed, then grew small, green tomatoes. There was one the size of a plum - a heroic proportion for our garden! We grew about 6 pickling cucumbers. We sliced them and put them in brine in the refrigerator. They were tasty. Our herbs did well this year and our blackberry bushes produced large, juicy berries for the first time.
