Just Past the Horizon. Filed Under : China. Saturday, July 28, 2012. As you get older, it is harder to have heroes, but it is sort of necessary.”. That's got to be boring. My first real exposure to the Olympics came when I was in college. One night, my friends and I were sitting around in our dorm room. It was late, and there was nothing to do, so we were flipping through TV channels, trying to find something to watch. As we roamed through the channels, we flipped by the Winter Olympics. After hearing Do...

September 2010 | Just Past the Horizon

http://themusingsofatraveler.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Just Past the Horizon. The Flickering Night Lights. Filed Under : China. Wednesday, September 29, 2010. The engine shifts from a high wine to a low growl as a foot presses down the clutch and slams the gear shift into third. Tires screech as the car weaves nimbly, back and forth, back and forth. The clock ticks as the driver races to his destination. You'd think this was a formula one race, but you'd be wrong. Welcome to the inside of a Chinese taxi cab. By the time we arrive wide eyed, dizzy, and somewh...

Post Apocalyptic China Wasteland Blues | Just Past the Horizon

Just Past the Horizon. Post Apocalyptic China Wasteland Blues. Filed Under : China. Wednesday, January 18, 2012. Its dead around here. Like, no sound of traffic and crows cawing dead. The area I live in exists largely because of the university I work for. The shops, the street vendors, and more importantly, the restaurants survive off the patronage of the students. And the students are all gone home. I might have to go to Walmart, buy some food, and cook it. What is the world coming to? View my complete ...

Just Past the Horizon. Snow White and the Four Dwarfs. Filed Under : China. Monday, December 12, 2011. Its amazing to me the changes a year can wreak. In terms of job proficiency, I have skyrocketed. No longer is Dazed and Confused by Led Zeppelin my theme song, but instead Black Sabbath's Wheels of Confusion. Wait, that doesn't sound better. I'll keep working on my metaphors. There aren't a lot of skits that I remember, but some of them. well, they stick with you. The group had nine members in it. T...

Just Past the Horizon. Filed Under : China. Thursday, January 5, 2012. Free China souvenir and irrevocable BFF status to the person who can guess the oblique reference in the title. And who isn't named Andrew. He has an unfair advantage. The first time I have a class, I like to start things off with a question and answer session. I go around the class and require every student to ask me one (or more) question (s). There are some common themes. The girls typically ask:. Do you have a girlfriend? I think, ...
