I spent time at the Masjid at Orchard, learning my Malay language. After Ishak, I went to Borders to check out books on Islam and caught a few insights and stories from books of Idries Shah, a modern author who wrote short stories on Sufism and many others which I would like to share. My lecturer was talking about sayyids and sharifahs (the elites) who will marry amongst themselves due to status. A man named John in the class remarked something related. He said while in the mosque in one country, there were men introducing themselves as sayyids. It prompted John to turn around and tell them that he was the descendant of the Prophet. Aren't we all the descendants of the Prophet?
