If you've followed this blog for a while, you likely know that I derive more satisfaction and joy from homemade cleaning concoction than a person probably should, even though I'm not a clean freak. I think my love of homemade cleaners is found in the principle of them. To be honest, I don't know if it's the frugal or au naturale. Part of me that enjoys the idea of homemade cleaning solutions more. Homemade vs. Pre-Made. Friday, January 30, 2015.

The Parsimonious Princess: A Christmas Edition of Random Reuses

http://theparsimoniousprincess.blogspot.com/2014/12/a-christmas-edition-of-random-reuses.html

Wednesday, December 17, 2014. A Christmas Edition of Random Reuses. If you've read this blog for a while, you may know that I'm always on the lookout for ways to reuse items around my house, even if it's just once, before it goes to the trash. It's been a while since I've done one of these Random Reuse posts, so I thought I'd share a few reuses to help during the Christmas season! Maybe this is a super-obvious tip (I never know with these reuses. Am I clever or are these common sense? Having grown up in ...

The Parsimonious Princess: Expecting Wonders: How to Test Your Seeds Before You Plant

http://theparsimoniousprincess.blogspot.com/2013/03/expecting-wonders-how-to-test-your.html

Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Expecting Wonders: How to Test Your Seeds Before You Plant. I'm not the most organized of people. I'm sure there are gardeners out there who have their packets of seeds in special containers, organized into groups, stored at the perfect temperature, and everything is carefully labeled. Honestly, I'm just glad that my seed packets are located one in place for a change. Test them. Testing for seed germination is so. Easy and takes only a couple days (a week at the very most) to do.

The Parsimonious Princess: One of My Favorite Thanksgiving Side Dishes (a.k.a., the only yam recipe I like)

http://theparsimoniousprincess.blogspot.com/2010/11/one-of-my-favorite-thanksgiving-side.html

Wednesday, November 24, 2010. One of My Favorite Thanksgiving Side Dishes (a.k.a., the only yam recipe I like). I understand that yams can be pretty divisive. Most people either love them or hate them. If you like yams, I think you'll love this recipe. If you don't like them, I'll just ask you to keep an open mind. I mean, there are no marshmallows in this recipe. The yams are mashed and sweetened and then topped with sugary pecan crumble. So it. 4 Tbsp. of butter, softened. 1/2 tsp. salt. Once peeled, m...

The Parsimonious Princess: A Summertime Staple: The Best Classic Potato Salad

http://theparsimoniousprincess.blogspot.com/2014/06/a-summertime-staple-best-classic-potato.html

Thursday, June 19, 2014. A Summertime Staple: The Best Classic Potato Salad. The recipe was my grandma's first (it's actually her birthday today). Even though my grandma passed away many years ago, whenever my mom makes this recipe, it's like part of her is back at the gathering. Last year, when my mom planned a picnic with a few of her brothers, they all requested that she make their mom's potato salad. Grandma Erickson's Potato Salad, aka The Best Classic Potato Salad. Boiled, peeled, and. Boil potatoe...

The Parsimonious Princess: Canned Heat: How to Make an Emergency Heater

http://theparsimoniousprincess.blogspot.com/2011/02/canned-heat-how-to-make-emergency.html?spref=bl

Friday, February 4, 2011. Canned Heat: How to Make an Emergency Heater. I attended a class held at my church a couple days ago where we learned about and made emergency heaters. They don't cost much to assemble and they could make all the difference in case of an emergency. Since I think emergency preparedness goes hand-in-hand with self-reliance and frugality, I thought I would share what I learned. You never know when something like this could be useful, after all. I checked, you can keep a car heated ...

Kristal and Robert: October 2011

http://kristalandrobert.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 27, 2011. When I think of a vampire, I am going to go with the classy tuxedo wearing vampire, not that emo rabble. 1 You can turn into a bat-. Do I really need to explain how cool this would be? When I was a kid, I used to test how sharp my teeth were with my fingers, unfortunately after having my adult teeth for about 20 years, they are not nearly skin piercing sharp. My wife can't get mad at me for this one because it's just my body the ladies want, my soul will be with her in heaven.

SueRaypole.com: BUCKWHEAT

http://sueraypolenews.blogspot.com/2014/09/buckwheat.html

Sunday, September 7, 2014. I've written before about my friend who invariably begins a conversation with this question, "What have you learned new today? Because I once said that I learned something new every day. Because a friend of ours follows a gluten-free diet, I try to accommodate that when he's a dinner guest. As I was researching gluten-free options, I learned today that BUCKWHEAT is not related to WHEAT, as it is not a grass. KASHA, I now learn is made from roasted buckwheat groats! RESTORES ONE...

SueRaypole.com: SHOPPING WHILE BLACK

http://sueraypolenews.blogspot.com/2014/08/shopping-while-black_26.html

Tuesday, August 26, 2014. My friend Charlene recently posted the following piece on Facebook:. The clerk refused to touch my hand while giving me change. Where my husband and I had to wait for service for an unusually long time (we left and never returned.). I have worked in retail where white sales women purposely ran the other way when an African-American or Indian person came into the store, which only helped my sales to SKYROCKET! I have seen ignorance, and fear on every level. I had the Company cred...

SueRaypole.com: NOT SOOOOOOO STUPID!

http://sueraypolenews.blogspot.com/2014/09/not-sooooooo-stupid.html

Monday, September 8, 2014. See the e-mail from my friend Patty entitled STOOOOOOPID! People rarely like to admit their ignorance of a subject. There should be no shame, but somehow there always is. With that in mind, here is what I learned for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I did not know that a corn stalk had only one ear of corn on it! I thought all stalks had ten or twenty ears on them. My old "farmer" husband looked at me when I uttered my opinion like I had just stolen the Hope Diamond! WHY D...

SueRaypole.com: "WHAT DID YOU SAY YOUR NAME IS?"

http://sueraypolenews.blogspot.com/2014/09/what-did-you-say-your-name-is.html

Saturday, September 6, 2014. WHAT DID YOU SAY YOUR NAME IS? I am acquainted with a woman who habitually refers to people she views as "prominent", "influential",. And she hurried up the aisle. I didn't have the opportunity to tell her that I knew WHO the person was, but he certainly was not someone I considered a "friend". When she started to introduce me to him, he said, "I know Sue! And then his wife came from behind him, squealed with delight, and embraced me. Can you imagine the mortification? She fu...

The Parsimonious Chef

Frugal with everything but taste. Sunday, January 23, 2011. I haven't been posting lately because I've been making tried-and-true recipes the last few weeks that I've ever already posted here or are so boring, they're really not worth sharing with the world. (Example: roasting broccoli in the oven. Delicious, but do we really need a recipe for that? Here's a super fantastic, low fat, healthy and delicious black bean soup. Quite economical, too. 1 lb black beans. 1/8 tsp baking soda. 2 tsp olive oil.

Cause being Parsley is so much cooler than being a Parsel! Tuesday, July 5, 2011. THE COUNTDOWN NEARLY ENDS. Its sad to believe that here where I am in Australia there is only 7 days 4 hours and 50 minutes until I will be sitting in the cinema at the midnight screening actually watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2.
