Kathryn Berck: Less, More, and The Bodyguard
https://kathrynberck.blogspot.com/2016/11/the-bodyguard-and-skilled-touch-of.html
Wednesday, November 23, 2016. Less, More, and The Bodyguard. Finally acquired grown-up home wifi, and an up-to-date DVD player that is preprogrammed for many of the on-line video services. Hunting happily through menus, I found a kinda-ashamed-to-admit-it but WTF old favorite, all the previous seasons of Project Runway. And I found two movies: one old favorite, one a delightful new surprise. Why have I always liked "The Bodyguard? I discovered one of several answers to that question at last. Kathryn Berc...

Kathryn Berck: February 2016

Saturday, February 13, 2016. Wake Up, Sit Up, Pay F* *ing Attention! Further efforts to get on with Ajax dribbled away into spiritlessness. See, he KNOWS that I'm not paying attention; don't love him enough yet. But a chance article* brought me to the realization that it is still Peryton that hold me in thrall - yeah, that sounds dramatic, but is nonetheless true. The article said, basically, 'Think you're done? What could he do? Http:/ www.writersdigest.com/online-editor/dont-scrimp-on-an-editor. Kathry...

Sunday, July 24, 2016. Posted by Cassandra Was Right. Wednesday, July 13, 2016. Gods And The Devil. Some have expressed surprise that I'm not including all the busyness of the Greek gods in my retelling of the Iliad. Any desire to fit them in is awkward and feels irrelevant; too much of what they're up to has little bearing on with what men and women are doing on the ground. "A god made me do it" has little resonance with a more modern reader. Posted by Cassandra Was Right. Sunday, July 10, 2016. S openi...

Kathryn Berck: April 2015
https://kathrynberck.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 23, 2015. See the rough draft segment, the new post in the Warrior tab. Ajax has arrived at Troy. Rough first draft, but I like it so far. Posted by Cassandra Was Right. Saturday, April 18, 2015. Notes From a Ship at Sea. Posted by Cassandra Was Right. Friday, April 10, 2015. Here We Go Again. Oh lord, not Odysseus. Again And I'll bet anyone a dollar that - as always - he will be depicted again as a 'hero' rather than as the sociopathic snake in the grass that he really was. In that often...

Kathryn Berck: March 2015
https://kathrynberck.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 23, 2015. When just flipping innocently through channels, how can we be certain, with only a moment's glance, that whatever is on is supposed to be some sort of historical or pseudo-historical (as in GOT) drama? Because nobody on screen looks as if he ever, in his entire lifetime, combed his hair, let alone washed his hands, changed his clothes, or trimmed his face. Do whatever you want, but please do it downwind. To enjoy themselves far too much. Posted by Cassandra Was Right. A collection...

Kathryn Berck: August 2016

Sunday, August 28, 2016. Brand new 2016 Fiat Spider - Oh yes, it's cute. Yes, it comes in white. Hey, it's totally affordable. But WTF? The only ones in stock - or in the dealer's pipeline - have automatic transmissions. What's the point in that? A 500 mile tow? This little guy is a charmer, but not ready for prime time. And no, I didn't bother to test drive. Posted by Cassandra Was Right. Friday, August 26, 2016. A Real Life Day. Took the trailer home, parked it (a chore, since the parking area was neve...

Kathryn Berck: Yes, Sure, Progress
https://kathrynberck.blogspot.com/2016/12/yes-sure-progress.html
Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Yes, Sure, Progress. Yesterday, went through and edited the first ten pages, decided to hate it for its inaction and lack of dialogue. Despaired. This morning, went back through and edited again, decided to love it because it sets up everything tersely, complexly, and subtly. From now on, everything that happens for several hundred pages flows from this. Wonder, very briefly, what normal people do on perfectly ordinary days like these. I have no idea. Yes, Sure, Progress.

Kathryn Berck: March 2016
https://kathrynberck.blogspot.com/2016_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 18, 2016. The life of man [is] solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.". And so here we go, Ajax and I, down the rabbit hole. It is to be utterly expected that he lived the life of the thief, vandal and pirate: everybody did. So he learned to respect Agamemnon only because the High King was more powerful; every man has a master. Other men like himself? They honored each others' exploits, their courage and success in raiding and battle, their reliability under fire. Brothers in arms.

Tuesday, August 18, 2015. Frustration, They Name is . Frustration. I wrote the Iphigenia episode because it is - to me - a major part of the pre-War activity, says a great deal about interpersonal relations, and is the best way I could think of to introduce Achilles and his character. He, at least, is delighted. I am far less so. Those don't seem to be reasons enough. Why? Posted by Cassandra Was Right. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
