The Pragmatic Pediatrician

Wednesday, May 6, 2009. During this recent H1N1 flu scare, I know many of us physicians have been swamped with patients, both sick and well. It has been a definite challenge, I think for all of us! She was just old enough to understand the news, but not old enough to fully understand it. I do hope she was able to go back to school and focus on the last few days of the school year, however, I have my doubts. Do we have a way to help these kids besides education? Links to this post. The Pragmatic Pediatrician: Feeling a little old

http://thepragmaticpediatrician.blogspot.com/2009/02/feeling-little-old.html

Monday, February 23, 2009. Feeling a little old. There was some variety. I found my sea legs fairly quickly, to my great relief. At the hospital where I worked this weekend, most of the medical record has been computerized, and they are in the process of making the ordering process electronic. Needless to say, I was very excited and intrigued to try this new system! Obviously, electronic health records are the future (in some places, the present! Labels: electronirc medical records. The Pragmatic Pediatrician: Subspecialist shortages

http://thepragmaticpediatrician.blogspot.com/2009/03/subspecialist-shortages.html

Friday, March 6, 2009. The news is full of stories about an ever-shrinking group of pediatric specialists, rising average ages of these specialists, and the overall critical situation we are. I also happen to work in a state with a tremendous shortage of doctors, both primary care and specialist care. Needless to say, I spend a fair amount of time thinking about the predicament we are in. Labels: length of fellowship training. March 19, 2009 at 10:24 AM. Thanks for your comment! I was just talking to som...

The Pragmatic Pediatrician: December 2008

http://thepragmaticpediatrician.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 19, 2008. MRIs as screening tools. I have really come to enjoy the world of blogs! I was doing a little catch-up reading today of several that I enjoy, and I found a disturbing bit of news on one of my favorites, http:/ thecountrydocreport.wordpress.com/2008/11/23/today-show-plugs-mri-screening-for-brain-tumors/. This show was aired on 11/17. I don't watch the Today Show, as I tend to get my news online and on NPR, and somehow I missed this story. Care, we'll avoid some of the huge costs...

The Pragmatic Pediatrician: August 2008

http://thepragmaticpediatrician.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 24, 2008. I have to admit, I've spent a fair bit of my free time watching the Olympics during the last couple of weeks. I love to watch and dream of being in the shoes of the athletes, pushing myself to get another gold medal. If only I had been a better swimmer or fencer or soccer player, I could just have been there! But, like the athletes, I too have spent some time training heavily to do what I do, and, to do it well, I continue to train reading journals, etc. I also enjoy particip...

The Pragmatic Pencil

I think, therefore Iam. Thursday, January 1, 2015. This New Year’s Eve we did things that felt right. Stretched out on the sofa in our faded pants we indulged in the unpretentious pleasure of rice and dal. Called our families; people who have lightened up our dark and melancholy days with their unceasing faith and kindness all these years. Watched beautiful fireworks from our balcony, hugged tight and thanked each other for still giving ourselves innumerable reasons to celebrate. Sunday, December 21, 2014.
