The Reading Challenge: April 2008

http://thereadingchallenge.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

A blog for friends and friendly strangers who want to read lots in 2008! Monday, April 28, 2008. Okay people, the thing is that I do read books, just slowly and distractedly and I have a hard time finishing them. In the meantime, I read the April issue of The Sun. My favorite part was the interview with Connie Rice, who works with cops and gangs in LA to reduce violence. It was an intriguing and inspiring interview. 48 pages. Friday, April 25, 2008. Books I've Read While Housesitting. Jeremy here. I'...

The Reading Challenge: August 2008

http://thereadingchallenge.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

A blog for friends and friendly strangers who want to read lots in 2008! Sunday, August 31, 2008. This afternoon I finished One Hundred Years of Solitude. By Gabriel Garcia Marquez. What can I even say about this book? It is magical realism. It is extraordinary. I think it will become part of the mythology that I live with, understand life through. Every page has sentences that amaze. It is like reading Spanish poetry. Perhaps because it is. Saturday, August 16, 2008. Two more before we move in 5 hours!

The Reading Challenge: December 2008

http://thereadingchallenge.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

A blog for friends and friendly strangers who want to read lots in 2008! Tuesday, December 23, 2008. Journal of a Solitude, by May Sarton. I read this book over months and months, reading one or two entries a day.  T'was lovely.  It's a journal she kept for one year, sometime in the 70s I think.  She was a solitary writer, living alone in a house on the east coast.  She reminded me a lot of myself, in ways in which I did not necessarily want to be reminded! Friday, December 19, 2008. 8221; by Anne Carson.

The Reading Challenge: November 2008

http://thereadingchallenge.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

A blog for friends and friendly strangers who want to read lots in 2008! Friday, November 28, 2008. Whew - Intense Stuff. Man, this was good. Young adult fiction about a teenager, who, when he was 9 yo, set another child on fire. He spends several years in a juvenile ward and then had to move to another state because of how angry the community was. Really really good stuff. How do you forgive yourself? How do you define a good/bad person? Yep I liked it. 292 pages. Monday, November 17, 2008. Great first ...

The Reading Chameleon

Book reviews and other Book stuff. Tuesday, June 28, 2016. So, I took a hiatus. I kind of took a blogging break with all the stuff that has come up in the last few months. Doesn't mean I stopped reading all together. As a matter of fact I read a bunch of books. Mostly those that had to do with linguistics. Lets kick off my return with a book called Wordcrimes: Solving Crime Through Forensic Linguistics by John Olsson. A great nonfiction book, bit boring if you don't have an interest in this type of stuff...
