the sweet serenity of growing things

Wednesday, April 23, 2014. New House, New Garden. the Planning Begins! We moved last Fall, and I nearly cried having to leave behind my newly-finished raised garden beds. They were gorgeous! And now, at the new house, I'm meeting up with a few new challenges as I try to figure out how to plan a garden for this year. Challenge 2: Gardening up front? Saturday, April 27, 2013. I am thoroughly tired, but. it's a good tired. I think. I'll be able to finish the south side tomorrow- maybe even start spreading mulch around the front, but more likely, I'll need a break. Photos are by me (D.L. Diener) and the background/decoration is done with http:/ ShabbyPrincess.com and if you like it, you should check that website, full of delicious goodies to play with. Friday, April 26, 2013. Hello Spring, I'm ready for you. I picked up a few potted phlox plants, a blu...

Thursday, May 23, 2013. My garden is actually growing! There are no Silver Bells or Cockle Shells, but. my garden is growing. If anyone has any idea why my Sugar Snap Peas are suddenly knocking off in rapid succession, let me know. I can't tell if it's bunnies or not. They were doing fine and then, boom, uprooted. But I thought if it were bunnies they'd be trying to eat the greens, not pull them out completely. And, some more Q's for the garden-savvy out there. Do I need to thin out the spinach?

Friday, December 21, 2012. Round and Round She Goes! And where she stops. Well, you know the rest. You can't say I didn't try. I kept my kids separated, washed my hands to the point where I had the hand-version of that Home Alone moment when Kevin slaps the aftershave on his face. I slathered some hand-sanitizer on my hands today and about cried. So many little cracks in my skin right now. I tried really, really hard but darn those germs- so stubborn! Something with some germ-cidal action? I'm kind of gl...

The Diener Five: March 2011

http://dienerfive.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 30, 2011. By, Dylan Diener, age 6. Once upon a time, there was a tornado at a school. And the tornado went down on the school. It wrecked the school a little bit. But it didn’t really do it. It went down to the ground really fast. The kids inside the school heard bump bump bump, jump jump jump. It was a tornado that had a smile on his face. One of the kids smiled back. All of the teachers protected themselves and the kids. One day the tornado went away. Links to this post. I was home che...

The Diener Five: September 2011

http://dienerfive.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Friday, September 30, 2011. The Future of the Five. Yes, roughly another 5 year plan, though this looks different from the original. The original was wait five years after getting married to have babies. In four years, my girls will be 7 years old, Dylan will be 10, and I will hopefully have a great writing schedule that brings in some kind of income to. Ohmyheavens, these little pups are cute! My kids are on board with it. Dylan said this morning, "so what's that dog we're getting when I'm 10? Thursday,...

Thursday, January 26, 2012. Here's what I'm working on at the house. We're turning our first-guest room, then nursery, then nursery again, then guest room again- into an office for me/guest room. The Diener Five: April 2014

http://dienerfive.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Year in Review 2013. Seems I've been a little slow in updating our family blog here. Let's see if I can catch you up. Dylan went skiing and broke his first bone. Not that it stopped him from skiing. I went to Ireland with Danny to do some research for my novel-in-progress. (First draft is done.). We rented out our cottage for another summer. We did the usual family visits over the holidays and aside from the big shift last fall, it was a fairly normal year. Fast Forward to now.

Is why you marry your best friend.

The Sweet Serendipity – Food and other life-changing things

Food and other life-changing things. February 13, 2016. So far I’ve been able to identify four key different areas of learning and understanding. The most primitive form of learning, is just factual. Just knowing facts. Like you know your name, you know which country you live in. Facts are important to some e. Xtent, because they set the context for everything else. They are limited though and we cannot consider memorising hundreds of facts to be a good standard of education. January 15, 2016. The idea p...
