THE TOOL STORE BLOG: October 2014
http://blogthetoolstore.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 27, 2014. I am currently sitting in our hotel room on the Azorean Island of St. Miguel part way through a week's holiday. I can recommend St. Miguel, specifically Ponta Delgada as a holiday destination. Since it is a bit rainy this afternoon I was wondering the internet and found a video on reclaiming lumber that shows a trick with rare earth magnets that is worth checking out. How to remove nails and mill reclaimed lumber. Labels: magnet nail finder. Friday, October 24, 2014. These roots...

THE TOOL STORE BLOG: Handles with Care
http://blogthetoolstore.blogspot.com/2015/05/handles-with-care.html
Friday, May 15, 2015. Aside from the fact that I was a big fan of the Traveling Wilburys. And played many of their songs while in a party band, Handles with Care is a good idea. Today's blog is about home made tool handles. Wood turning with a Drill Press. A common way to make a tool handle is by turning on a lathe, if you haven't got a lathe than you can use your drill press. Cheap and easy handles. The knives have several wraps of duct tape. Covered with painter's tape. Rivets are nice, but the epoxies...

THE TOOL STORE BLOG: What a Mess !!
http://blogthetoolstore.blogspot.com/2015/05/what-mess.html
Monday, May 18, 2015. I don't do much large scale wood carving and so while my shop is often a mess, it usually doesn't get into this shape so quickly. If you really want to create chaos get into heavy duty carving, chain saw carving has to be the only thing that sends more chips flying, more directions. Our back yard has a small water feature and my wife wanted a medium sized tree branch turned into an open channel for water to run from our upper pond into the lower pond. First I used a small axe. Grind...

THE TOOL STORE BLOG: March 2015
http://blogthetoolstore.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Another Basic Blog - Plyers or Pliers. Those are the five sets of plyers that I have on a rack within easy reach in my shop and use frequently. Upper left are Linesmens plyers. I actually bought those plyers when I was working for the power company with the line crew. I use these plyers to cut and to crush and to hold on to things I am grinding or heating or hammering. They are my "go to" tool. Moving right are needle nose plyers. Bottom left are End Cutters. This is in no way th...

THE TOOL STORE BLOG: Rubber bands, chops sticks, rags and boats too!
http://blogthetoolstore.blogspot.com/2015/05/rubber-bands-chops-sticks-rags-and.html
Monday, May 4, 2015. Rubber bands, chops sticks, rags and boats too! So this is a sort of rambling blog about three non tools that every shop needs and my weekend's amusement. Rags; remember when cotton rags were easy to come by? Now there are lots of rags but polyester rags are not much good for work in the shop. Shop towels. Are the solution for those that haven't got a good source of old tee shirts and pillow cases. Life boat made in. Model boat in the. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I hope that ...

THE TOOL STORE BLOG: August 2014
http://blogthetoolstore.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 29, 2014. Finally the TOOL TOTE. The tool tote, loaded. I decided what I would put measuring/layout tools in this small tool box ( 5 1/2 by 11 foot print). I have already used this set up in my shop, I wish I had done this years ago. Now as I work the squares, pencils, rulers etc. do not end up laying on my bench mixed in with the wood pieces. Sharing space with my layout tools is my go-to shop knife,. That will be needed at assembly time are the two squares. On my work table in my shop.

THE TOOL STORE BLOG: July 2014
http://blogthetoolstore.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Bosch Portable Table Saw GTS 1031. If you are an old school woodworker you can't imagine a shop without a table saw. If you are an old dog you may be down sizing or if you are starting out you either can't afford the money or the space for a full sized table saw. If you can't have a full sized table saw a contractor/portable saw is a realistic option. The small saws have improved to the point that $500.00 gets you a tool that will take care of a small shop's needs. I had pre-cut...
