The View from the Mud Shack. Sunday, July 21, 2013. Back in 1982, some bozo, to this day unknown, laced bottles of Tylenol sold in the Chicago area with poison. Seven people died. The View from the Mud Shack: December 2011

http://www.theviewfromthemudshack.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

The View from the Mud Shack. Friday, December 23, 2011. Of Weather and Foolishness. I give up. Can't make sense of any of it. First, politics. This picture (from The Atlantic Wire. Says all that needs saying about how Republicans in Congress feel about helping the middle class:. Speaker Boehner looks about ready to cry after having to give in and extend the tax cut for the 99%. I agree that a two month extension is a farce but given the dysfunctionality of the Congress, what else was expected? Merry Chri...

The View from the Mud Shack: Whining with my Wine

http://www.theviewfromthemudshack.blogspot.com/2013/03/whining-with-my-wine.html

The View from the Mud Shack. Thursday, March 7, 2013. Whining with my Wine. We are waiting for our local feed store to notify us of the arrival of some Welsummer chicks. This breed produces almost chocolate colored eggs. A nice day's production. It still gets too cold at night to keep the newly hatched chicks outside but hopefully we can recover the bedroom in April when the night-time temps climb up into the 50's. Done whingeing. Pouring a glass of red wine. To help me live forever. The Zees Go West.

The View from the Mud Shack. Friday, May 11, 2012. It's been a while since I've posted- - sorry. Retirement has become busier than anticipated. But this past week. The hollyhocks are out of control and the cholla and prickly pear are in full bloom. Amazing how green the desert can become. We are having a bit of early monsoon; thunderstorms, soaking rain, something not usually seen until mid-June. In the New Testament, which purports to be the Word of Christ. Finally, yay, Congress! The House passed a budg...

The View from the Mud Shack: Feelings of Inadequacy

http://www.theviewfromthemudshack.blogspot.com/2013/07/feelings-of-inadequacy.html

The View from the Mud Shack. Tuesday, July 16, 2013. It's only Tuesday. The Army has found left-over nuclear waste in a bunker at Biggs airfield, next to Fort Bliss in El Paso. Not to worry, it's only alpha and beta particles buried a foot and a half or so deep but fortunately higher than the water table. This information was revealed by a retired serviceman who was there when they buried the stuff in the 50s. Good thing he's around- -could this be our long sought-after solution to gun violence? Section,...

Penguin Droppings: April 2014

http://penguindroppings.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Pearls of wisdom from the Penguin. April 1, 2014. In actually, all this is a lot of fun for me. I earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work like 200 years ago but never really used the organizational, leadership and policy skills I learned in the jobs I had. Now however, they come in very handy. Everything from putting together a symposium to running a regular meeting falls under that umbrella. No January pictures but my next post will finish the infectious story of my health and show a nice picture or two.

Here was present a 3 generation family remembering their patriarch, inviting us to be a part of it. Posted by T Fab P. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Pearls of wisdom from the Penguin. September 17, 2014. A Groundhog’s Day Redux. I wrote this several months ago but never posted it. Right now my leg is doing great but it was different at the end of the winter and thru most of the summer. I looked at this and read it over and decided to post it because it reflected a dark place where I was and no longer am. Here it is. Did you ever get that feeling that you are trapped in a never ending life loop, seemingly repeating the same things over and over again?

Pearls of wisdom from the Penguin. February 2, 2015. Obsession Part 3: No sun, no dancers. The general theme of these last posts has been really the serendipitous nature of photography. You set out to shoot one thing yet it is another that becomes the image you keep. So it is with this third weather related experience. So I approached this weekend with excitement. Saturday was warm, sunny and I got this image of a Native American potter sketching out a design for a soon to be made earthenware pot. Keep u...

Pearls of wisdom from the Penguin. February 9, 2014. Where have I been? Where am I now? Where am I going? Keep this date in mind, August 25th, 2013. Before last week, that had been the last time I posted in my blog, a short 5 months ago. Totally unacceptable. A lot has gone on in my life during that time and so I thought i would take a post or several to update, commiserate and investigate, the world around me here in sunny New Mexico. And now a few pictures:. Cliff Dwelling at Mesa Verde National Park.

The View From The Narthex | on the edge of faith

The View From The Narthex. On the edge of faith. Some chant at evening. June 3, 2015. We were recently in Rome. One early evening, on our way back to the hotel, after a busy day sightseeing, we looked in, quite by chance, on the church of Trinita dei Monti. At the top of the Spanish Steps. This was the sight and sound that greeted us (not my video, but one I found on Youtube of a similar occasion): the monks and nuns of the Fraternités Monastiques de Jérusalem. Chanting the Office. Balm for the soul.
