The Violin Case Blog. Violin playing and other string musings. May 30, 2009. Practice-time Conditions and Distractions. Posted in Violin Practice. At 10:38 pm by theviolincase. 1 Not enough time, “I can’t practice because I only have 30 minutes.”. 2 Too much noise or distraction. 3 I don’t want people listening to my practice time. How many people are distracted by this? Do you care if there are people in the other room listening? Or is this just me being strange? If I’m practicing I think I should...

The Violin Case Blog. Violin playing and other string musings. September 19, 2009. Motivation – always an issue. Posted in Violin Practice. At 1:06 pm by theviolincase. Today, I really didn’t feel like practicing. I was dreading trying to play the Bach (EM Partita) today. Even with all the help I’ve been getting, it just doesn’t seem to be getting any better. So I decided to give myself a little break, and play for fun! It is easy to get wrapped up in the WORK of practicing. All the techniques we nee...

The Violin Case Blog. Violin playing and other string musings. May 26, 2009. Posted in Violin Practice. At 6:05 pm by theviolincase. Today I could only squeeze in a half hour of practice. But once I had the violin out I stretched it to 40 min, so that was nice. I spent the time entirely on scales and arpeggios trying to get my strength and flexibility back. I think it will be fine as long as I can be consistent for the long haul. I’m icing and typing at the same time, quite a trick.

Anyway, the experiences that we've had with our children in the schools has rarely been positive. Sadie had a few experiences (lets hope I remember them correctly). And there was another incident regarding a...

Sunday, December 30, 2012. Some of Allara's friends from Florida came to visit. We had a fabulous time! One day we drove to Leavenworth and shopped and played in the snow. This is the first time my kids have been in snow since we lived in South Carolina (at least 5 years ago), and even longer for the twins. The kids built a mini snowman while waiting in line to tube. Forrest sliding down the hill on his belly. SNOWBALL FIGHT. They were out of the car the minute it stopped to play. Posted by Lynelle Klein.

Too Busy People
Sunday, September 16, 2012. How To Grow Old Before Your Time. What’s with that? Anyway, we got to IKEA which has been under renovation since 2009 and I asked how to get to the restaurant and was told it was…CLOSED. At this point I am not happy. Add to that the fact that the carpet section was also closed. I then received a call for the young women at their apartment in Bordeaux asking if we could find them a small rug. Aaarg! Frustration level back up. We got to their apartment only to find that they...

The Violin Case Blog. Violin playing and other string musings. November 9, 2009. Rumor: School Orchestra = bad habits? Posted in School Orchestra. At 7:13 pm by theviolincase. Recently I had a concerned parent ask me about school orchestra for her daughter. Her private violin teacher had advised her not to enroll the daughter in school orchestra because “they teach bad habits.”. Yes, bad habits are a possibility, but not because the teachers are not doing their job. It is simply due to the teacher/st...
