Cafe Crafts and Animals Takaka Hill. Gotland sheep are an unique breed with some desirable qualities. They are considered a rare breed in New Zealand and are New Zealand's only true coloured sheep. That is to say that other breeds of sheep are either white or coloured, but Gotland is always coloured. The Gotland breed of sheep (and its magnificent wool! The breed originated on the Island of Gotland in the Baltic sea, off the East Coast of Sweden. Gotland sheep are direct descendants of the Gute breed.

Cafe Crafts and Animals Takaka Hill. The Takaka Hill is typical karst country with its weathered rock forms and numerous sink holes. It’s often referred to as the Marble Mountain. Marble from Kairuru gained national prominence in 1911, when it was chosen for use in the construction of Parliament Buildings in Wellington. The government architect, John Campbell, specified Kairuru marble because it had the necessary strength and could be polished to a high creamy lustre. Theme: Spacious by ThemeGrill.
