Wonderful Wool | The Wool Shed

http://www.thewoolshednz.com/wonderful-wool

Wool is nature's super fibre. Wool is 100 percent natural. It's fireproof and waterproof – it actually generates heat when wet. It's a natural insulator and is fantastically versatile. From hard-wearing carpets to luxury knitwear and glamorous eveningwear, the versatility of wool is boundless. An average Merino sheep is protected by 60 million fine wool fibres. In ideal conditions its fleece can grow 12 kilometres per day. Samples of all types of wool and the sheep they come from can be viewed right here.

From the 1840s, sheep, mainly from Australia, were introduced in considerable numbers and by 1850, sheep farming was firmly established. Commercial aerial top dressing for spreading superphosphate fertiliser began in 1949&#4...

Doug, for example, sits unobtrusively at meetings spinning miles of yarn on an electric spinner. The yarn is to feed his looms – and every so often he will come along with a rug that astonishes us all with its inventiveness and beauty (often describing it modestly as “just an experiment”). Crazy paving in wool.
