Every foreign land a fatherland. Newer posts →. May 21, 2012. We found out our final site info. We’ll go there this Thursday after Wednesday’s swearing in. So, here it is. Capital of its province. 163,000 folks. Center of the country. It’s great because it has a few main roads going through it, the most important being a road between Marrakesh and Fez. Beni Mellal has easy access to Rabat and Casablanca (5 hours to Rabat). Housing will be more expensive, but it will likely be of higher quality than that ...

Every foreign land a fatherland. Our Moroccan Home →. June 12, 2012. In Morocco, the price of almost everything is up for debate, even the fare for a cab ride. Haggling is a daily occurrence. Buyer and seller alike employ various tactics to get what they want until, in the end, someone caves. Jess and I recently moved (only our bodies and clothes) into a new apartment and have begun the haggling and buying process. Since we had an interesting experience with haggling today, I thought I might share. 8221;...

http://steph-africa.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Updating you on my life in Côte d'Ivoire with Journey Corps! Saturday, December 22, 2012. For the first time in my life, I can say that I have read through the entire Old Testament. And also, for the first time, I can say that I understand what it meant for Christ to be born here on earth. Though Israel had continually turned away from God, He continually brought them back to Himself. I feel their joy when, in the book of Ezra. King Cyrus tells the people that they may build a temple in Jerusalem. Was ap...

A Grand Adventure: About my Ministries
http://steph-africa.blogspot.com/p/why.html
Updating you on my life in Côte d'Ivoire with Journey Corps! In 2010, I traveled to. I came planning to stay for a year, but God expects more than our human limitations often allow for. I fell in love with the Ivorian people, and God grew in me a heart for those who are neglected by the majority of society. Jesus called them “the least of these” (Matt. 25:45). I love Journey Corps because it’s based on a partnership with the Ivoirian church. Their struggles became my struggles and their joy, my joy.
A Grand Adventure: August 2012
http://steph-africa.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Updating you on my life in Côte d'Ivoire with Journey Corps! Sunday, August 26, 2012. An Ivorian who has become my brother comes to me for advice on an important decision. 8220;I am afraid to disappoint you,” he says. 8220;Don’t worry about that. The only one you should worry about disappointing is God,” I tell him. I hear my name yelled from across the field of the women’s conference – it’s Korotoum, the Ivorian host mom of one of our volunteers. I ask about her family and her trip to Abidjan. 8221; (th...

Updating you on my life in Côte d'Ivoire with Journey Corps! Saturday, March 31, 2012. To be persnickety clay. Here’s what I’m learning: God knows what we need even when we don’t. He knows where we’re going even when we have no idea. When I left for Cote d’Ivoire in October of 2010, I had decided to put aside a year. Of my life for God. That’s a lot, right? At the time, I thought so. Well, a year has become 17 months…. Last I checked, there were 12 months in a year. Was it my choice? Any way you swing it...
A Grand Adventure: April 2012
http://steph-africa.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Updating you on my life in Côte d'Ivoire with Journey Corps! Friday, April 27, 2012. After our youth meeting on Saturday, I found out that Angelika, Madame Traole, and Lea were going to visit a few widows from our church. Lea had a lot of rice left over that she’d been given at her wedding, and she wanted to give it away before it went bad. Mai and I joined them. She walked over to her basin, full of the day’s harvest, and placed it down in front of us. Inside were mangoes. Now, I have no other choice!

Updating you on my life in Côte d'Ivoire with Journey Corps! Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Am I hearing correctly? I would have loved to see us win. Not for the sake of saying that CI won the Africa cup, but because this country is pulling itself out of 10 years of frustrating war, and any encouragement would help. Reconciliation isn’t an easy task. Sure, it was just. A game - contrary to the public’s reactions. But why couldn’t they win? Maybe there’s larger lessons to learn here. 8220;Listen to me, God!

Updating you on my life in Côte d'Ivoire with Journey Corps! Tuesday, January 24, 2012. What would life be without relationships? Here are some pictures from the past few weeks! We've been doing some traveling around. I spent a week in Korhogo staying with Tricia's host family, and now we're in Abidjan. We made a pit stop at the beach, on our way to drop off Alyssa. Free, beautiful beach? They were pulling in a fishing net. Alyssa, Devin and I. Lea and I, at the rock quarry. Sunday, January 8, 2012.
